O Primeiro Mandamento - Capítulo 05
Valery acreditava no paraíso.
Foi por causa de uma história contada por um professor idiota na escola quando ele era pequeno. Na casa de Alexei, não havia nenhum adulto que ensinasse sobre a religião passada de geração em geração entre os imigrantes, e como Alexei não sabia nada sobre Deus, se não fosse pelo professor, Valery talvez não acreditasse no paraíso.
Não é ilegal ensinar religião livremente a uma criança?
Em Saratov a maioria das pessoas era russa, então praticamente todos acreditavam em sua religião ortodoxa, e Valery naturalmente se imergiu nesses ensinamentos. Ele aprendeu coisas que não tinham nenhuma utilidade prática na vida. Regras proibidas, condições para entrar no paraíso, entre outras coisas.
E, naturalmente, todas as ações de Alexei eram exatamente o oposto de tudo isso. Se havia alguém desesperado para ir para o inferno, era ele, e Igor, que segurava sua vida em suas mãos. O ponto engraçado aqui era que esses malditos assassinos acreditavam em religião.
Igor acreditava que podia comprar seu caminho para o paraíso, doando dinheiro sujo para uma igreja corrupta, e seguia rigorosamente as regras que proibiam relações entre pessoas do mesmo “gênero”. Era uma visão ridícula, mas era uma sorte. Se não fosse por isso, quem sabe que tipo de loucura Ivan já estaria fazendo. Ah, ele já estava fazendo.
Crescendo em tal sociedade, Alexei também seguia uma das regras mais importantes. Ele evitava a todo custo sair com pessoas do mesmo gênero secundário (no caso alfas). Era mais correto dizer que ele não tinha motivo para quebrar essa regra. Alexei sempre viveu em uma sociedade onde as características e hierarquias eram rigidamente estabelecidas e conflitantes, especialmente entre indivíduos de mesmo status, como os alfas. O conceito de ‘amor além das características,’ que pode ser aceito em grandes cidades como Nova York, era algo distante e irrelevante para ele. Ele estava apenas tentando sobreviver e havia muitas leis que ele precisava quebrar para isso.
Portanto, Valery não poderia ir para o paraíso ao lado de Alexei.
Isso era independente do fato dele não acreditar no paraíso ou no inferno. Valery gostava de rezar e acreditava que isso, no final, levaria os dois para um lugar melhor. Alexei não queria dificultar ainda mais a vida do garoto dizendo que Deus não existia. Ouça, Lerusha, Deus não existe. Olhe, pessoas horríveis como Igor estão vivas, não estão?
Então, decidiu empurrar seu irmão para a luz antes que ele fosse puxado para a sombra onde Alexei estava.
Desde o dia em que Igor exigiu uma prova de lealdade.
Ele poderia ter dito muitas coisas a Valery.
‘Desculpe, Lerusha. Eu te amo, te amo, te amo muito. Eu preciso te proteger, e você é a única razão pela qual estou vivo. Eu não queria te machucar. Nunca quis te bater.’
‘Mas, Lerusha, Igor é uma pessoa muito má. Você não pode chamar a atenção dele de jeito nenhum. Se ele descobrir o quanto eu te valorizo, ele vai acabar descobrindo sobre você, e isso nunca pode acontecer. Por quê? Porque, se acontecer, eu teria que dizer de onde você veio. E isso eu não posso contar.’
‘Porque, então, você morreria.’
‘Morrer é doloroso, Lerusha. Morrer é algo muito mais terrível e angustiante do que você imagina. Eu queria que você sofresse menos do que isso, por isso, eu te bati. Eu precisava fingir que não te amava.’
Era verdade, mas ao mesmo tempo era uma bobagem. Alexei não tinha coragem de dizer a terrível frase de que bateu por amor. Se amava, deveria proteger de qualquer maneira. Mas, malditamente, Alexei não tinha poder. Igor estava no topo, e Alexei estava na posição de alguém que precisava rastejar para ser reconhecido. Para sobreviver, para pagar pelos pecados dos pais.
Não havia outra maneira. Além da crença de Valery no paraíso, ele não deveria entrar na organização. Igor era extremamente obsessivo com seus subordinados, e a única maneira de sair da organização era através da morte. Um garoto como Valery não conseguiria sobreviver nesse lugar.
Por isso, Alexei simplesmente não disse nada. Mesmo assim, seu anjo ingênuo, querendo de alguma forma perdoá-lo e segui-lo, continuava a falar.
“Vamos fugir, Alyosha. Por favor, vamos. Não se machuque, não faça isso. Eu não preciso fazer balé, vamos fugir, por favor, por favor, por favor.”
Olhando para Valery chorando e agarrado às suas pernas, Alexei só conseguiu dizer que não. Ele não tinha dinheiro para fugir e Igor não os deixaria em paz. Se fugissem, Igor os caçaria e os mataria. O homem era meticuloso com ‘os exemplos.’ Aqueles que tentavam fugir eram perseguidos e mortos. Se houvesse uma família com um bebê, até o bebê seria morto.
Valery não sabia que o lugar onde estavam era uma armadilha mortal. Alexei apenas não queria que ele soubesse disso. Às vezes, era melhor não saber, e Alexei sabia disso melhor do que ninguém.
Portanto, contar a Valery que eles tinham pais diferentes não fazia parte do plano. Ele revelou essa verdade que pretendia esconder até o fim porque Valery parecia extremamente vulnerável. O garoto, que sempre lutou para sobreviver, parecia prestes a desmoronar completamente, então Alexei não teve escolha a não ser se render.
E funcionou, de certa forma. Isso deu a Valery um motivo para me odiar novamente.
Valery dizia que o odiava loucamente e chorava constantemente. Era uma dor que rasgava o seu peito, mas Alexei não sabia como consolar o garoto, agora crescido. Ninguém lhe ensinou isso. Nem como cuidar de alguém de forma normal, nem como amar, nem como se comunicar de maneira honesta. Não havia ninguém que pudesse ensinar. Seus pais morreram há muito tempo e os únicos adultos ao seu redor eram criminosos. Alexei não tinha como saber lidar com alguém normal como Valery.
E ainda é assim.
—Me dê o celular.
Se fosse uma pessoa normal, o que teria feito aqui? Alexei olhou para Valery, que estendia a mão para ele, e ficou pensando. T-mac teria dito algo assim: Uma pessoa normal não prende os outros, seu maluco.
Era verdade. Alexei refletiu sobre o dia em que fez Valery desmaiar, o prendeu e o amarrou. Não era algo que ele realmente desejava fazer. Ele se sentia culpado por ter atrapalhado o tempo que Valery deveria ter usado para praticar. Pelo lado positivo, ao mantê-lo afastado de Ryan Winter, ele prolongou um pouco a vida de Valery.
—Desculpe, mas não posso fazer isso.
Senão, você pode entrar em contato com Ryan Winter e fazer alguma besteira. Era triste não poder confiar no próprio irmão, mas não tinha outra escolha.
—O que eu preciso fazer para você me dar?
Então, Valery começou a usar uma nova abordagem que aprendeu nos últimos dias. Quando ouviu essa frase, Alexei ficou momentaneamente paralisado. Não sabia onde ele tinha aprendido esse método encantador, mas certamente era muito eficaz. O fato de alguém que nunca pedia ou exigia nada se aproximar dessa forma… Era duvidoso e ao mesmo tempo adorável.
Alexei olhou para Valery com os olhos semicerrados. Depois de todas as palavras duras e choro, ele não esperava que o garoto reagisse assim. Para ser honesto, estava nervoso, com medo de que uma reação maior pudesse surgir, então nunca imaginou que teria uma conversa desse tipo.
Por que ele está fazendo isso?
Nos últimos anos, ele havia demonstrado continuamente ódio e repulsa por Alexei, como um ouriço levantando espinhos à menor aproximação. Considerando o que Alexei fez nos últimos dias, uma reação ainda mais forte seria compreensível. Então, por que?
Seria por causa do nó?
Alexei pensou na atitude estranhamente mais branda de Valery. Dado ao temperamento do garoto, não era possível que ele o perdoasse ou se aproximasse por causa do sexo. Pelo contrário, ele ficou tão chocado que sentiu náuseas. No entanto, havia uma pequena diferença no sentido de que a relação atual entre os dois agora era de Alfa e Ômega.
Um alfa tem, por natureza, desejo de posse e exclusividade sobre um ômega. Além disso, houve o nó. Aconteceu tantas vezes que certamente teve algum impacto. Talvez tivessem se vinculado.
Não…
Não e um vínculo. Se fosse, teria sentido. Além disso, não sou um ômega completo, foi uma transformação parcial, por causa dos medicamentos, então a possibilidade de vínculo é nula.
…Será? Vou ter que perguntar a Altor sobre isso. Pensando nisso, Alexei decidiu a condição para a troca equivalente.
—Me chame pelo apelido.
—…..
Valery fechou a boca firmemente. Seus lindos olhos, ligeiramente cerrados, o olhavam com desagrado. Mas não era um olhar de quem estava enlouquecendo de raiva. Estava claro que seus feromônios tinham algum efeito.
—Se continuar me chamando de Alyosha.
Alexei balançou o celular carregado de Valery enquanto falava.
—Vou te deixar ver se você falar. Claro, sob minha supervisão. — Alexei acrescentou a condição óbvia.
—Até quando pretende continuar assim?
Boa pergunta. Alexei se lembrou que estava na hora de aparecer. T-Mac e Yuri provavelmente estavam procurando por ele, e Ivan começaria a incomodar, já que ele não dava notícias há mais de quatro dias.
—Não quer?
Alexei fingiu que ia jogar o celular pela janela. Sentiu o olhar penetrante e, logo, os lábios de Valery se abriram.
—…
O som esperado não veio. Alexei estava impaciente. Nunca tinha imaginado ser chamado de Alyosha pela voz adulta de Valery, mas só de pensar em ouvir isso, ficou ansioso. Ele adicionou mais uma condição.
—Como eu disse, não posso te soltar agora. Mas posso responder suas perguntas, se tiver alguma.
Ele sentia uma sede insuportável.
—Me chame de Alyosha.
Quando falou quase implorando, Valery ficou com os olhos como se tivesse sido espetado por um espinho. Com os olhos chorosos, como se tivesse sido picado pelo meu próprio espinho.
—……Sha.
Finalmente, ele falou.
—Me dê o celular. ……Alyosha.
Uma alegria explodiu. Foi apenas uma palavra, mas uma felicidade que ele nunca tinha sentido em todos esses anos floresceu dentro dele. Estava tão feliz que não seria estranho se seu coração explodisse de tanto bater. Neste momento, queria acreditar que Deus existia.
—Sim.
Sorrindo de alegria, Alexei olhou para ele como a pessoa mais feliz do mundo. Os olhos de Valery estavam fixos no rosto dele, ainda com uma expressão dolorida, o garoto moveu os lábios. Quando a mão estendida começou a cair, Alexei rapidamente a segurou e o abraçou com força. Valery, que ele esperava que o empurrasse, ficou rígido e parado.
—Sim, Lerusha.
Respondendo novamente, Alexei enterrou o rosto no pescoço dele. Seja por causa dos feromônios ou por qualquer outro motivo, não importa. Se Valery ao menos abrisse seu coração um pouco novamente, então.
Desta vez, queria desfrutar deste momento, mesmo que brevemente, comunicando-se de uma maneira um pouco mais normal. Então, se Valery acredita em mim, se ele perder completamente o interesse em Ryan Winter…
Poderia deixá-lo partir para outro mundo, como Valery desejava, satisfeito com a última alegria que tiveram.
~~~~~
Embora fosse algo que ele esperava, o celular de Valery estava cheio de chamadas perdidas. Não era de se admirar, já que alguém que ia praticar mesmo nos feriados não aparecia há mais de três dias. Havia vinte chamadas, mais de quarenta notificações de mensagens, além de várias outras mensagens de texto.
Será que reportaram à polícia?
Com esse pensamento, Alexei olhou para a tela ao lado de Valery. Valery se assustou quando ele se aproximou, mas mesmo com uma expressão desaprovadora, não disse uma palavra. Então, ele verificou o celular. A maioria das mensagens eram de colegas e dirigentes da companhia de balé.
—Você não está tentando enviar uma mensagem pedindo ajuda, está?
Alexei perguntou brincando. Valery hesitou por um momento, talvez pensando em realmente fazer isso. Mas, claro, ele não deixaria isso acontecer.
—Diga que seu irmão estava doente por causa disso você teve que ir correndo ao hospital, por isso não consegui entrar em contato.
—……Eles nem sabem que você existe.
—Agora sabem.
Valery olhou fixamente para Alexei por um momento antes de começar a escrever uma mensagem semelhante para todos, incluindo o diretor e outros relacionados. Enquanto ele olhava para o celular, comentou secamente.
—De qualquer forma, não somos realmente irmãos, certo?
Como era de se esperar, Valery ainda não tinha superado o impacto da verdade que havia sido revelada. Sua expressão escureceu instantaneamente. Alexei olhou fixamente para a tela, era verdade, mas mesmo assim, suas palavras doíam.
—Família não é só quem compartilha o mesmo sangue.
Na verdade, ele se importava mais com Valery do que com seus próprios pais biológicos, então suas palavras faziam sentido.
—Parece algo que Igor Volkov diria.
E de fato, era algo que ele costumava dizer, então Alexei deu um sorriso amargo.
—Eles não são minha família. Você é a única família que tenho, e não preciso de mais ninguém além de você.
Valery, que estava enviando as mensagens, parou. Olhando para a tela, ele perguntou:
—Para minha família, vo-……
Valery, que estava prestes a dizer “você”, fechou a boca. Depois de alguns segundos de hesitação, ele corrigiu a forma de tratamento.
—Não acho que o que fez comigo seja algo que se faz com um membro da família. ……Alyosha.
Ao ouvir o apelido carinhoso, uma flor desabrochou dentro de seu coração. Uma nova vida emergiu debaixo da terra congelada. Seu coração bateu mais forte e a alegria percorreu suas veias, aquecendo-o.
—Fui ensinado a fazer qualquer coisa pela minha família.
Valery olhou diretamente para ele ao ouvir isso.
—Foi nossos pais… não, seus pais que disseram isso?
Era a primeira vez que ele falava sobre a família. Quando era pequeno, Valery nunca mencionou esse tipo de coisa para não deixá-lo triste, e depois disso, nunca tiveram a chance de conversar sobre isso.
—Sim.
Alexei pensou nos rostos de seus pais. Sem uma foto sequer, ele só podia contar com suas memórias. Em suas vagas lembranças, um homem e uma mulher de cabelos negros apareceram rapidamente. Os olhos azuis-acinzentados de sua mãe, que ele herdou, e a expressão severa de seu pai.
Eles foram arrastados para o covil da máfia contra a vontade, mas, independentemente do que estivessem fazendo, eram bons pais para Alexei. Seu pai sempre enfatizou uma coisa para ele. A família deve proteger-se mutuamente.
Nunca abandone alguém que você ama.
—……Você sabe alguma coisa sobre meus pais?
A voz de seu pai, que costumava falar segurando-o firmemente pelos ombros, se dissipou. Alexei olhou para Valery em silêncio diante da pergunta.
—Não. Não sei.
Alexei recordou novamente as palavras de seu pai. Ele sempre dizia: mesmo que não compartilhem o mesmo sangue, se é alguém em quem você pode confiar e apoiar…
É família.
—Eu te encontrei na rua. Devia ser início de outubro. Como você sabe, a neve começa a cair em setembro, e você estava perdido, encolhido perto de uma lata de lixo em um terreno baldio.
Alexei falou lentamente os fatos.
—Parecia que você ia morrer de frio, então te trouxe comigo.
Tudo o que aconteceu depois foi enterrado sob a neve acumulada. Alexei preferiu não dizer mais nada.
—……Você não teve pais desde então?
Valery continuou perguntando. Será que ele estava escondendo todas essas perguntas até agora? Será que a dor de não poder perguntar o deixou mais afiado? Alexei inclinou a cabeça para o lado e olhou para ele. Valery estava olhando para ele, tendo até deixado o celular de lado, e Alexei achou isso adorável.
—Não, ninguém.
—Por quê?
Com um sorriso seco, Alexei pediu:
—Me chame de Alyosha.
—……
Os lábios, que antes estavam tagarelando, se fecharam. Os longos cílios dourados piscaram repetidamente. Os olhos, tingidos com o verde das folhas novas, tinham uma expressão magoada, no entanto, não era um olhar cheio de ódio mortal. Isso já era bom o suficiente. Era ótimo.
—Alyosha……
O apelido carinhoso era um pouco mais alto do que antes. Que fofo. Rindo baixo, Alexei sorriu com os olhos.
—Bom.
Vou pedir a Yuri para comprar um monte de *pelmeni, que Lerusha gosta. Com esse pensamento agradável, Alexei foi trazido de volta à realidade pela pergunta de Valery. Hmm, não é uma história agradável.
(Pelmeni é um prato tradicional da culinária russa, consistindo de pequenos bolinhos de massa recheados, geralmente com carne moída (carne de porco, carne de vaca, cordeiro ou uma mistura dessas carnes), mas também podem ser recheados com outros ingredientes como peixe, cogumelos ou vegetais.)
—Meus pais foram mortos por Igor. Eles fizeram algo que ele não gostou. Ambos morreram naquela época.
O sangue formou uma poça, seu pai morreu protegendo sua mãe. A única coisa que ele lembrava claramente eram os sons intensos dos tiros. Se voltasse àquele momento, poderia descrever o estado dos corpos com precisão. Seu pai tinha vários buracos no corpo causados por balas de 5,56 mm. De acordo com a política humanitária da OTAN, as balas de 5,56 mm não tinham poder suficiente para atravessar duas pessoas completamente, então sua mãe, que sobreviveu nos braços de seu pai, foi executada de outra maneira. Depois de ficar na frente de sua presa capturada, Igor colocou pessoalmente uma Glock na cabeça de sua mãe e enfiou uma bala nela.
Alexei testemunhou tudo isso. Na verdade, Igor fez questão de que ele visse tudo claramente. Se as coisas tivessem acontecido como deveriam, Alexei teria sido morto ali mesmo. A política de Igor era clara. Um exemplo deve ser feito corretamente. Na hora da execução, a idade não importava. Por se tratar de um grupo que mata até bebês recém-nascidos sem hesitação, pode-se dizer que Alexei teve muita sorte.
No entanto, por esse motivo, Alexei levava uma vida claramente diferente dos outros membros da organização. Na organização, havia apenas quatro pessoas com habilidades de combate como Alexei: Yuri, ele, Vadim e Bogdan. Os outros membros eram apenas figurantes armados. Embora fossem grandes e bons de briga, isso não significava que lutassem bem. As coisas sempre foram assim.
Apesar disso, Alexei era tratado como um cão porque seus pais eram traidores e ele precisava pagar pelos crimes deles. Foi o resultado de suas súplicas para sobreviver, então não havia outra escolha.
Quando Alexei resumiu as lembranças vívidas, Valery fechou a boca. Nos belos olhos, que antes estavam arregalados com raiva, surgiu uma emoção estranha. Será que, apesar do que fiz, ouvir essa história balançou seu coração? Alexei pensou, suspirando, como alguém tão gentil podia existir.
—Lerusha.
Chamou-o calmamente. Seu amado irmão.
—Você disse que queria morrer.
Ao dizer isso, seu coração se apertou.
—Se acabar morto por Igor por causa de Ryan Winter…
Sentiu como se ele mesmo tivesse causado isso.
—Ele também não sairá ileso. Mesmo sendo parente de Kalish Winter.
Será que eu não deveria ter trazido você? Deveria ter deixado você morrer de frio? Será que eu só trouxe infelicidade para sua vida?
—Esta é a cidade de Igor.
Um inferno do qual só se pode escapar morrendo.
Enquanto dizia isso, o celular de Valery vibrou. O som da vibração se espalhou pelo ambiente tenso. Ambos olharam para a tela. Um nome estava claramente visível, as letras “Ryan Winter” brilhavam em branco.
Alexei esperou silenciosamente pela reação de Valery. Ainda havia muitos métodos coercitivos disponíveis. No entanto, como essas tentativas frequentemente saíam pela culatra, Alexei decidiu ser paciente. Ele não queria destruir a vida de Valery.
—Não pode ficar com Ryan Winter. E você acha que a família Winter não sabe sobre mim? Eles certamente têm um propósito.
Valery olhou para a tela por um longo tempo. Seus dedos tremeram algumas vezes antes que a chamada fosse encerrada. Sem perceber, sua boca ficou seca de tanta tensão.
—……Entendo.
Valery respondeu com um rosto inexpressivo. Alexei piscou, surpreso, pois esperava que levasse mais tempo.
—Acho que o que eu precisava… era de um ômega.
Os olhos se encontraram. Ele observou atentamente o rosto sem emoção de Valery, que não mostrava hostilidade.
—Agora não penso muito nisso.
Alexei ponderou por um momento. Nesse meio tempo, a mão de Valery se estendeu lentamente em direção a ele. Soltando o celular, Valery agarrou o joelho de Alexei. A força com que segurava o joelho era tão intensa que Alexei riu. Ele ignorou a vigilância instintiva que surgiu em um canto de seu coração.
—É o que parece.
Era tudo sobre os malditos feromônios.
Embora tivessem feito muitas vezes, em apenas quatro dias Valery havia se tornado bastante habilidoso. O garoto, que antes não sabia nem onde penetrar, agora sabia como se mover. Ainda havia muito a ensinar, mas ele tinha uma energia exagerada, e Alexei sentia-se exausto como há muito não se sentia. Talvez a sua intenção seja realmente me exaurir.
Com esses pensamentos, Alexei se deitou ao lado de Valery e pegou seu celular. Não era muito diferente do de Valery. Havia várias chamadas e mensagens, incluindo uma de T-Mac com dez palavrões em uma única frase. Entre elas, mais de cinco chamadas perdidas de Yuri.
Já estava pensando em ligar para ele.
Alexei sorriu ao lembrar do rosto de Yuri, que sempre parecia desaprovador. Isso fez com que Valery, que cochilava, levantasse a cabeça. Seus olhos sonolentos eram adoráveis. Rir apenas por ver as chamadas perdidas de Yuri mostrava o quão bom Alexei se sentia. E isso era graças à presença de Valery ao seu lado.
Sem querer tocá-lo de forma descuidada e arriscar ser empurrado, Alexei observou Valery adormecido enquanto fazia uma ligação. Assim que o telefone tocou uma vez, Yuri atendeu.
[Alyosha.]
Era o mesmo apelido, mas quando Valery o chamava, porque se sentia tão feliz?
—Oi.
[O que você está fazendo que não atende o telefone? Aconteceu alguma coisa?]
—Não, nada.
Bem, algo aconteceu, mas não é nada sério. Será que é sério?
—Ivan me procurou?
Um suspiro baixo foi ouvido do outro lado da linha. Alexei podia imaginar a expressão de Yuri.
[ Igor o chamou, então ele foi para a casa principal por um tempo. Estou cuidando das suas coisas, mas se você continuar sumido, Vadim vai perceber.]
—É verdade.
Vadim, aquele rato, sairia correndo para contar para Igor. Alexei verificou a hora.
—Está ocupado agora?
[Estou indo.]
Não precisava dizer mais nada, Yuri entendia perfeitamente suas intenções. É por isso que não havia ninguém como Yuri.
—Traga pelmeni quando vier. Bastante. Acrescente também smetana e pelmeni de framboesa.
[Mas o que…]
Mesmo dizendo isso, Alexei ouviu Yuri se movendo. Ele riu baixinho, e Yuri comentou.
[Não ria.]
—Vou te dar 15 minutos.
A voz que estava rígida finalmente se soltou naquele momento. Depois de desligar o telefone, ele sentiu fome. É natural, já que você não vai encher o estômago com coisas como borscht. Quando abaixou o celular, sentiu que Valery estava olhando para ele. Valery, que estava olhando para ele com uma expressão estranha, perguntou baixinho.
—… Quem era?
Era uma voz que parecia um tanto cautelosa.
—Hmm? Yuri?
Sentindo como se estivesse na frente de um gato com o rabo esticado, Alexei riu. Ele estimou o tempo em silêncio. Quanto tempo faz desde que eu e Valery conversamos tanto assim? Desde que o menino começou a crescer, tem sido difícil até olhar para o rosto dele, então ainda era difícil acreditar que estavam tendo essa conversa. É vergonhoso desfrutar de um momento assim, considerando as coisas sujas e baixas que fiz com ele.
Considerando sua situação, não deveria se permitir esse prazer, mas Alexei decidiu se tornar um pouco mais descarado. Já que sou um lixo que chegou ao fundo do poço, ser mais egoísta não fará diferença.
—A pessoa que acabou de ligar foi Yuri?
—Sim.
Valery, que estava perguntando algo, parecia adorável. Alexei sentiu-se capaz de responder qualquer coisa. Era como um milagre o fato de Valery, que nunca perguntava nada sobre sua vida ou trabalho, estar curioso.
—… Parecia que eram amigos íntimos.
Ao murmurar baixinho para si mesmo, ele sentiu uma leve tensão no ar. Enquanto pensava no motivo, Valery franziu os lábios e virou a cabeça.
—Fiz uma pergunta desnecessária. Ignore.
Alexei não conseguiu impedir a tentativa de Valery de se distanciar novamente. Em vez disso, sentou-se inclinado na cama e procurou algo para dizer a Valery enquanto ele encarava o leito bagunçado. Como não haviam conversado um com o outro por tanto tempo, era estranho para ambos, inclusive para Alexei, iniciar a conversa com Valery. Normalmente, ele só dizia coisas para magoar ou irritar Valery, então ele pensou por um bom tempo.
—Quando é a próxima apresentação?
Valery fez contato visual novamente. Suas sobrancelhas douradas, molhadas de suor, se esticaram antes de tremer levemente.
—Ainda não está decidido. De qualquer forma, será apenas uma repetição do que sempre fiz…
Um tédio passou por seus olhos. Havia também um sentimento de resignação semelhante ao desânimo. Valery sempre quis deixar este lugar. Ele devia estar tão desesperado que estava disposto a arriscar sua vida entrando na vida Ryan Winter. Na verdade, mesmo para ele; era um absurdo que um talentoso bailarino passasse a vida inteira em uma cidade tão pequena. Como disse a professora, ele poderia ter ido para outra escola ou companhia de dança.
O familiar sabor amargo da autodepreciação encheu sua boca. Ele queria fumar um cigarro. Fazia mais de três dias desde que ele forçou-se a parar de fumar, e agora que lembrou era difícil resistir ao desejo. Seria mais fácil se fizesse sexo para parar de pensar nisso. Para evitar sentimentos dolorosos, todos os tipos de pensamentos confusos varreram sua mente.
Mas, no final, ele não pôde ignorar, com isso Alexei abriu os lábios silenciosamente.
‘Adoro ver quando você dança, Lerusha. Você parece tão feliz, como se não pensasse em nada. Parece tão livre. Porque vive de maneira tão diferente de mim.’
Ele não teve medo de remodelar seu corpo, se colocar em risco e enfrentar dificuldades, mas não poderia nem ousar dizer isso para Valery. Isso parecia íntimo demais. Não era o mesmo que lidar com seu irmãozinho chamando ele de querido. Ele só conhecia métodos coercivos. Nunca aprendeu a falar de forma suave e gentil, se fosse esse o caso, esse relacionamento não teria acontecido em primeiro lugar.
—Por que você está perguntando isso, se você não vai me soltar?
Valery olhou para as algemas e disse. Alexei logo se sentiu aliviado com sua atitude cautelosa. Porque isso era familiar.
—Como você disse, eu não posso viver assim pelo resto da minha vida. —Alexei encolheu os ombros e disse. Ele esfregou os lábios e voltou a falar.— Eu vou te soltar assim que encontrar uma solução.
—Que maneira é essa? Você vai matar Ryan?
Bem, não está fora de questão. Enfim, mesmo que eu não queira, mais cedo ou mais tarde o Igor vai conseguir que o Ivan faça alguma coisa.
Gradualmente, esses sinais começaram a aparecer. Depois que a saúde de Igor piorou, sua personalidade tornou-se mais cruel e ele reagia exageradamente aos espinhos cravados em sua área, assim como a Clara Khaleesi.
A maneira como Igor assumiu o controle de Saratov foi em duas fases: primeiro, dominando a polícia que os investigava com força esmagadora e depois apaziguando a guerra com suborno. Dakota do Norte era um território remoto e quase abandonado, e Saratov era uma terra estéril e vasta dentro dela. Já que este é um lugar que foi governado dessa forma, o quão descontente ele deveria estar com Khaleesi Winter, que não aceitava subornos e tinha o apoio do departamento de controle? Era hora de recorrer a métodos extremos que estavam guardados há algum tempo.
—Quando eu tiver certeza.
—Certeza do quê?
—Você sabe.
Alexei sorriu vagamente. Valery o observou em silêncio.
—Eu sou o seu inferno, mas nunca quis arruinar a sua vida. Só que Ryan Winter não serve.
Ele pensou no dinheiro que havia guardado. Excluindo o dinheiro em espécie que gastou comprando o remédio, ainda deveria ser o suficiente para cobrir o depósito de um apartamento em Nova York. A dívida cobrada como desculpa pela traição de seus pais era tão grande que fez Alexei se sentir frustrado novamente. Se não fosse por essa dívida, ele teria economizado o suficiente para comprar um apartamento, mesmo que não fosse em um bairro nobre. Enquanto os assassinos estavam ganhando dinheiro, Alexei passou a vida toda na sarjeta e ainda não tinha economias suficiente. Ah, talvez seja porque eu não matei ninguém. Isso foi o que pensou. Que droga.
—Vou te tirar daqui de qualquer jeito. Me dê um pouco de tempo e eu farei isso…
Me dê certeza.
Valery piscou para as palavras de Alexei. Sua expressão desmoronou. Os olhos assustados imediatamente ficaram distorcidos, como se nunca tivesse imaginado isso. Como se perguntasse: “Por que você está dizendo isso agora?” Os lábios de Valery se moveram como se fossem se abrir. Sem respirar, Alexei observou isso. O silêncio apertou seu pescoço como um laço, e ele sentiu que ia sufocar.
A campainha tocou.
Como uma bolha de sabão estourando, ele voltou à realidade. Alexei levantou-se lentamente. As algemas tilintaram. Deveria pegar qualquer coisa para vestir? Ele não se importava de mostrar seu corpo nu para Yuri, mas não gostava da ideia do homem o ver Valery nu. Ele se abaixou e procurou na mesinha de cabeceira onde estavam as roupas de Valery que ele havia movido para o seu quarto. Encontrou uma calça preta e a colocou sobre a cama.
—Vou pedir para ele entrar, vista isso.
Quando não houve resposta imediata, três batidas pesadas soaram. Era o som característico de Yuri. Alexei gritou enquanto olhava para a porta da frente.
—Entre. Você tem a chave.
Valery então reagiu.
—Você deu a chave da casa para ele?
Hum? Ao olhar para trás, Valery tinha uma expressão de incompreensão.
—O que têm?
—Você deu a chave da casa para um criminoso, não acha estranho?”
Nesse sentido, talvez deva ser desconfortável.
—Ele é meu colega. Yuri é diferente dos outros subordinados de Igor.
—Mas ainda são todos criminosos. Matam, batem e roubam o dinheiro dos outros.
Bem…
Ele estava certo. Embora ele não desejasse isso, Valery estava apenas apontando os fatos. Drogas, assassinato, contrabando, ele trabalhava para alguém que explora pessoas comuns como um parasita.
Mas eu não matei ninguém, querido. Você realmente odiaria isso.
Alexei engoliu as palavras inúteis e sorriu. Era mais fácil assim.
—Certo.
Ele disse apenas isso e se virou. Sem querer arrastar Valery, ele sentou-se na cama e esperou Yuri entrar. Ouviu o som da porta da frente se abrindo, seguido pelo som de sapatos sendo retirados. Justamente quando ele pensou ter sentido cheiro de pelmeni, Valery jogou algo em seu corpo. Era um cobertor.
—Por que você não está vestindo nada?
Ficou surpreso com o som da voz, que estava cheia de irritabilidade. Enquanto tentava entender a situação, Yuri entrou no quarto.
—Você passou mais um dia inteiro sem comer…
A conversa parou aí. Os olhos azuis encontraram os de Alexei. No rosto afiado, normalmente inexpressivo e calmo, uma emoção começou a surgir. As pupilas dilatadas diziam tudo.
—… você.
A voz baixa de Yuri soava suspeita. Era um tom que Alexei nunca tinha ouvido antes. Além do constrangimento, sentiu algum tipo de agitação. Bem, uma cena como essa seria estranha até para um mafioso, especialmente com alguém que ele considerava ser seu irmão mais novo. Será que havia mencionado a Yuri que faria isso? Não. Eu não contei a ninguém.
Deveria me desculpar por não ter avisado antes? Enquanto esses pensamentos passavam pela sua cabeça, Yuri, com olhos trêmulos, olhou fixamente para Alexei e depois para Valery. A colisão intensa de feromônios era perceptível e no momento em que Alexey percebeu isso, sentiu uma tontura.
Ah, merda.
Eu sou um ômega, não sou? Até o momento em que atacou Valery, ele não tinha realmente sentido isso, mas de repente, ficou claro. Sentir os feromônios de um alfa dessa maneira era estranho. Parecia que ia desmaiar. Ele simplesmente se sentia mal. A sensação de ser dominado não era agradável.
—Pare com essa merda e controle seus feromônios.
Alexei, lutando contra a tontura, disse a Yuri com uma voz entrecortada. Yuri, que olhava para Valery como um animal guiado apenas pelo instinto, recuou bruscamente. O saco de pelmeni que ele segurava caiu no chão. Ele imediatamente se inclinou para Alexei e segurou seu ombro.
—Droga, Alyosha! O que fizeram com você?
Yuri parecia o mesmo de sempre, mas o toque dele causava uma sensação estranha. Um arrepio percorreu o corpo de Alexei e logo desapareceu. O que não nunca fez qualquer diferença, de repente, parecia extremamente estranho, e Alexei praguejou contra Altor em sua mente. Precisava perguntar imediatamente se já havia algum remédio para voltar a ser um alfa.
—Se acalme.
—O que você vai fazer se aquele desgraçado do Ivan descobrir?
Yuri parecia realmente abalado, algo incomum para ele. A mão que segurava seu ombro ganhou mais força. Não doía, mas os feromônios eram estranhos. Ele começou a perceber que todas as sensações que tinha como alfa estavam invertidas. O lençol que Valery havia jogado em seu corpo caiu. Ao mesmo tempo, o olhar de Yuri se fixou no corpo nu de Alexei. Ele arregalou os olhos e respirou fundo. No instante em que percebeu uma ligeira mudança nos feromônios do outro.
—Tire as mãos dele.
Seu corpo foi puxado para trás. Sentiu uma mão puxando o lençol para cobri-lo, e então ouviu a voz baixa de Valery. Lentamente, ele virou a cabeça para trás e viu os olhos verdes olhando fixamente para Yuri. Uma hostilidade mais intensa do que Alexei havia percebido antes estava evidente nos olhos que costumavam ser tranquilos.
Yuri observava Valery em silêncio. Seus feromônios, que pareciam estar se acalmando, agitaram-se ferozmente. Era a mesma aura afiada que ele exibia em meio às brigas. Era desconfortável ver Yuri agir assim com Valery, de todas as pessoas.
—Yuri, pare.
Com as palavras de Alexei, Valery o abraçou completamente. Sentindo o toque do abraço por trás, Alexei ficou tenso. As ações do garoto eram tão inesperadas que, em vez de se afastar, ele ficou imóvel. Assim como os feromônios de Yuri pareciam diferentes, o odor corporal de Valery também era diferente do passado. Ele me sentiu estranhamente calmo.
O que é isso? De um jeito fofo.
Apesar da situação ser bastante séria, algo dentro do coração de Alexei parecia inquieto. Era estranho, já que ele nunca tinha sentido Valery o abraçar assim antes… Era sempre ele que abraçava Valery, nunca o contrário.
—Vamos sair. Vamos conversar lá fora.
Yuri lentamente controlou seus feromônios. Ainda com uma expressão tensa, ele fez um gesto com o queixo para Alexei. Ele sabia que tinha chamado Yuri para conversar, então começou a se mover cautelosamente. Assim que tentou se mexer, o aperto dos braços que o seguravam ficou mais forte. Mesmo quando brincavam de lutar no passado, Valery nunca o abraçava assim.
—Fique aqui.
Essa atitude mimada…
Alexei ficou genuinamente confuso. Ele sempre sentia a forte aversão de Valery, a ponto de nunca esperar que ele o perdoasse facilmente. Às vezes, em momentos de fraqueza, ele ousava esperar por isso, mas sabia que era um desejo ilusório. Portanto, vê-lo agir de forma tão carinhosa agora era algo que ele nunca esperava testemunhar novamente.
É por causa dos feromônios? Alexei pensou enquanto olhava para os braços de Valery que o seguravam com força. Os antebraços musculosos, com veias saltadas, eram claramente bem definidos. A sensação de firmeza, como se fossem feitos de pedra, e a força com que o seguravam, diziam claramente que Valery era um alfa. O que ele sabia apenas figuradamente até agora se tornou evidente fisicamente diante de seus olhos. Embora ainda parecesse um garoto, Valery estava afirmando seu lugar de alfa. Seja qual fosse a motivação, se era desejo de posse ou algo mais, não importava. Se outra pessoa tivesse feito isso, teria sido ofensivo, mas como era Valery parecia simplesmente fofo. Seu coração se acalmou rapidamente.
—Vou conversar só um pouco. Volto logo.
Alexei ficou um pouco mais ganancioso e sussurrou como fazia quando queria confortar Lerusha quando criança. Ao inclinar a cabeça para trás, viu os olhos verdes de Valery o encarando. Os lábios vermelhos e comprimidos eram adoráveis. Ah, como ele é lindo. Eu quero te dar um beijo.
—Vai me deixar aqui? E se eu fugir?
O que será que passa por essa cabecinha? Antes, parecia desesperado para fugir, e agora usa isso como ameaça de forma fofa.
—Foi por isso que você fez isso.
Valery até mostrou as algemas. O gesto provocador fez Alexey rir. Ele conteve a vontade de segurar o rosto dele e cobri-lo de beijos. Até que houve uma vantagem nessa loucura de mudar de características.
—O que é isso, Alyosha?
Yuri, que estava quieto, rosnou ao ver as algemas. Parecendo irritado, ele se aproximou, e Valery puxou Alexei para mais perto. Seus olhos verdes lançaram um olhar furioso para Yuri, não muito diferente do olhar ameaçador do outro alfa.
—Meu irmão disse para você parar. Afaste-se.
Valery, que sempre falava formalmente com Alexei, abandonou a formalidade. O rosto de Yuri endureceu ao ouvir chamá-lo de “irmão”. Yuri soltou um sorriso de escárnio misturado com um suspiro e disse a Valery:
—Ridículo.
Yuri recuou e pegou um maço de cigarro do bolso, ele abriu o maço com o logotipo vermelho, o mesmo que Alexei sempre fumava, e tirou um cigarro. O homem, habilidosamente, acendeu o cigarro e tragou a fumaça.
—Um cara que não sabe nada sobre Alyosha, de repente chamando-o de irmão. Você não faz ideia do que ele passa por sua causa…
Alexei interrompeu Yuri antes que ele dissesse algo desnecessário.
—Chega. Vá embora por hoje. Eu vou entrar em contato com você depois, mas saia agora.
—Amanhã é dia de relatório. Tem havido muitos problemas por causa de Khaleesi Winter, Alyosha. Você não pode continuar assim até amanhã. Ivan vai querer vê-lo.
Com essas palavras, Yuri ofereceu o cigarro que estava fumando. Alexei, desejando desesperadamente um cigarro, quase pegou automaticamente, mas resistiu ao perceber que estava nos braços de Valery.
—Deixe pra lá.
—Você se segurou enquanto estava com esse seu ‘irmãozinho’. Apenas aceite.
Alexey franziu a testa, mas decidiu aceitar o cigarro, já que Yuri já estava fumando. O fato de Yuri, que raramente demonstrava incômodo, parecer irritado, contribuiu para sua decisão. O cara que já estava cheio de preocupações deve ter ficado chocado ao encontrar Alexei fazendo isso. Alexei estendeu as mãos algemadas, então os olhos do homem se fixaram nas algemas.
Quando finalmente pegou o cigarro, a necessidade era palpável. Pensou que os desgraçados que inventaram o cigarro eram tão desprezíveis quanto Igor, enquanto dava uma longa tragada. Ao inalar a fumaça, sentiu-se revigorado. Não gostava muito de beber, então o cigarro era seu único passatempo.
—Você fuma?
Valery perguntou incrédulo. Ao virar a cabeça, Alexei viu os olhos arregalados de surpresa. O que Yuri disse pareceu tê-lo surpreendido de várias maneiras. Foi meu erro ligar para vir Yuri aqui. Ele o chamou para trazer algo para Valery, mas Yuri só falou besteiras e até assustou o tímido coelho. Seria melhor expulsá-lo. Alexey estalou a língua.
—Saia, Yuri. Eu vou ligar para você.
Yuri respondeu com silêncio. Os olhos azuis sob as sobrancelhas grossas tinham um olhar frio, indicando que ele certamente apareceria no dia seguinte. Enquanto ele balançava a cabeça, cuspindo fumaça, Yuri se curvou. Ele pegou o pacote que havia caído no chão e o colocou lentamente na mesa de cabeceira.
—Não fique chateado.
—Certifique-se de comer algo decente.
Yuri disse baixinho, lançando um último olhar para Valery. O olhar penetrante parecia desrespeitoso, e Alexei estava prestes a dizer algo quando Yuri se virou. Ouviu os passos pesados se afastando, seguidos pelo som dos sapatos e a porta se fechando. O ar frio do corredor misturado com a fumaça do cigarro fez a pele nua de Alexei se arrepiar ligeiramente, nesse momento ele apagou o cigarro na mesa de cabeceira.
—Você só não fumava na minha frente?
Sem saber se podia se aproximar de Valery novamente, Alexei ficou parado enquanto ele perguntava. A mão do jovem apertou firmemente o ombro que Yuri havia segurado. Ele girou o corpo de Alexei para encará-lo. Compartilhando o mesmo lençol, Valery olhou diretamente para ele, sua expressão estava misturada com tantas emoções que era difícil discernir o que ele sentia.
Parecia tanto ressentido quanto irritado e confuso.
—Sim.
—Por quê?
—Porque você não gosta.
Valery fechou os lábios diante dessa resposta, sua expressão pareceu incrédula por um momento. Ele mordeu os lábios e passou a mão pelos cabelos. Seus olhos amendoados, apesar do rosto delicado e bonito, eram afiados como os de um gato. Nenhuma outra parte do rosto deles era parecida, mas talvez esses olhos afiados fossem uma pequena semelhança.
—Você só não fumava porque tinha medo de que eu não gostasse?
—Bem…
De certa forma, sim. Quando Alexei deu de ombros, Valery franziu a testa.
—Você faz todas as outras coisas que eu odeio, mas se importou com isso?
—Eu tentei.
Ao ouvir a palavra “tentei”, Valery começou a rir sarcasticamente.
—Em vez de tentar dessa maneira, deveria ter feito outras coisas. Você nunca respondeu às minhas perguntas. Nós somos uma família? Você nunca me tratou como tal.
Os olhos de Valery, que riam de forma convulsiva, ficaram vermelhos.
—Eu sempre quis suas explicações.
Apesar de suspeitar, ouvir esses sentimentos diretamente deixou Alexey perplexo. Preferia que Valery estivesse expressando sua raiva ou desprezo. Não sabia lidar com Valery chorando. Isso partia seu coração.
Era como se o pequeno garoto que esperava por ele, encolhido no beco, em meados de outubro, havia voltado.
Com essas palavras, Valery calou-se. As lágrimas que se acumulavam escorreram por suas bochechas. Alexei, sem esboçar um sorriso, o observou por um longo tempo antes de estender a mão lentamente. Valery olhou fixamente para ele, mas seu Alexei não recuou. Com medo de ser rejeitado, ele tocou suavemente a bochecha do garoto. Era macia e quente, seu coração se encheu de calor. Enquanto pensava no que dizer, Valery falou novamente.
—Você disse que queria ter certeza, certo?
Alexei olhou fixamente para Valery.
—Então, eu também tenho uma condição.
Valery agarrou a mão que Alexei estava usando para tocar seu rosto. Ele segurou firmemente o pulso e o puxou. O coração de Alexei bateu descontroladamente com as ações imprevisíveis do irmão. Era uma mistura de dor e alegria. Porque ele não afastou isso, isso é realmente… … .
—Me diga o que esse cara sabe e eu não sei. Então, eu farei o que você mandar sem precisar dessas algemas.
Isso é alegria?
Em vez de sorrir, Alexei franziu as sobrancelhas. Emoções que haviam se desvanecido e se transformado em palavras começaram a ganhar vida novamente. Valery sempre foi a pessoa mais brilhante em sua vida. Alexei gostava dessa característica em Valery.
Ele não era cruel, ao ponto de ser ingênuo.
Era por isso que Alexei queria protegê-lo. Em uma situação onde ele poderia facilmente se desviar e se corromper, ele tentava, de alguma forma, manter sua essência. Era diferente das concessões que Alexei fazia para sobreviver. A bondade cega, a tentativa de manter a fé, mesmo não sendo tolo, se fosse Alexei, ele nunca teria chegado a essa situação. No momento em que ouvisse a terrível notícia de uma gravidez, teria dito para interromper do bebê imediatamente.
Não importava o que os feromônios tivessem feito. Ele estava simplesmente feliz por recuperar um fragmento de seu irmãozinho perdido. Alexei assentiu. Por que não poderia dizer? Se Valery quisesse, contaria tudo. Contaria qualquer coisa, desde que isso não colocasse o garoto em perigo.
—O que você quer saber, coelhinho (зайчик)?
Valery não recuou, mesmo quando Alexei usou o apelido que costumava chamar na infância. Ele apenas apertou os lábios, parecendo um pouco desconfortável, mas depois de um momento, falou com os olhos ainda vermelhos de chorar.
—Desde quando você fuma?
Essa foi a primeira pergunta. Alexei se aproximou mais e, com a outra mão, afastou o cabelo de Valery. Em vez de afastá-lo com força, Valery apenas baixou um pouco o olhar.
—Não fumei tanto assim.
Era engraçado ser repreendido por fumar depois de ter feito todo tipo de coisa horrível, como usar armas e facas. Quando Alexey disse isso, Valery insistiu novamente.
—Desde quando?
—Faz 9 anos.
—Há tanto tempo assim?
Não era exatamente uma idade tão jovem. Estava prestes a se tornar um adulto e já tinha visto de tudo.
—Não era algo que eu queria fazer.
Foi Igor quem o obrigou a fumar, então Alexei disse isso. Valery ainda parecia desconfortável com a situação e, ao ouvir isso, desviou o olhar por um longo tempo. Enquanto olhava calmamente para o quarto de Alexei, fez outra pergunta.
—Você é amigo próximo desse Yuri?
—Bem…
Não eram exatamente amigos, mas sim colegas, algo assim.
—Sim.
O rosto de Valery assumiu uma expressão estranha. Seus olhos, que estavam desviados, ficaram novamente vermelhos. Valery franziu o cenho e apertou firmemente a mão de Alexei que estava segurando. Nesse momento ele percebeu que sua mão era maior que a dele. Embora fina e bonita, os ossos eram grossos. Ao ver que a mão era comprida o suficiente para segurá-lo completamente, Alexei lembrou-se das noites passadas. Se as mãos eram grandes, então a parte de baixo também deveria ser. Não, isso era o pé.
Enquanto pensava nas bobagens que T-mac dizia, seu corpo reagiu. Isso o deixou um pouco envergonhado. Embora fosse verdade que ele precisava de um ômega, não era sua intenção se aproveitar disso. Fazer tantas vezes sexo também não estava nos planos.
Enquanto estava perdido em pensamentos, Valery perguntou novamente.
—O que aquele bastardo quis dizer quando falou que eu não sabia de nada?
Desde então, algo realmente o preocupava; lentamente, Valery começou a recapitular cada uma das palavras de Yuri. Alexei ponderou. Yuri sabia tudo, desde as ações de Igor e Ivan, sua rotina diária e até mesmo os acontecimentos que cercam o nascimento de Valery.
Alexei sobreviveu em parte por sorte, mas também porque, na época, Vasily, pai de Yuri e um dos homens mais confiáveis de Igor, intercedeu por ele, Vasily convenceu Igor a testar Alexei. Igor era estrito em questões de recompensas e punições, mas decidiu ouvir as palavras de Vasily, um homem de habilidades inigualáveis. Claro, depois que o homem saiu de debaixo das suas asas, Igor tentou matá-lo.
Enquanto Alexei revisava essas lembranças, parou no fato que mais incomodava Yuri. Deveria contar isso? Alexei pensou. Talvez isso diminuísse a raiva de Valery se ele soubesse. Ele me chama de assassino.
Alexei apertou firmemente a mão que estava segurando e sussurrou:
—Eu não sou exatamente um assassino, Lerusha. Nunca matei ninguém.
Olhos verdes lacrimejantes piscaram. Era uma cor brilhante e luminosa, que poderia reter luz infinita. A expressão confusa de Valery o encarou por um longo tempo como se ele não entendesse.
—Você… não matou? Como?
—Isso não significa que eu não seja um bastardo, mas nunca matei alguém. Você não gostaria disso.
A razão para as ações de Alexei sempre se resumia a Valery.
—Eu nunca quis isso.
Os olhos verdes entraram em colapso. A confusão passou por cima dele, Valery apertou os lábios. Ele franziu as sobrancelhas douradas, fez um som de ‘haa’ e escovou o cabelo.
—Existem inúmeras circunstâncias que mostram que você matou pessoas. Todos que conhecem seu nome dizem que você….
Murmúrios incoerentes saíram de sua boca como se fossem pensamentos soltos. A mão que segurava Alexei apertou ainda mais. Valery mordeu os lábios repetidamente, abaixando a cabeça. Seus cabelos loiros finos e suaves caíram sobre sua testa em uma curva.
—É difícil de acreditar.
Valery sussurrou suavemente. Alexei inclinou-se para frente, seguiu o olhar dele para encontrar seus olhos e disse baixinho:
—Eu não mento.
Ao invés de não dizer nada. Ao ouvir essas palavras baixas, Valery fez contato visual. Os olhos, que antes estavam confusos e aflitos, agora pareciam uma floresta cheia de tristeza. Valery olhou para ele incessantemente e, finalmente, fez a última pergunta.
—Aquele dia…
Alexei sabia intuitivamente o que ele ia perguntar.
—O que você disse para mim foi verdade?
Ele balançou a cabeça. Sem necessidade de explicações, Alexei negou firmemente enquanto abraçava Valery. Desde muito tempo, ele queria fazer isso. Queria dizer isso.
—Não.
Abraçando seu irmão, que agora era maior que ele, ele sussurrou fervorosamente:
—Eu sempre te amei muito.
Porque você é minha única família. Ele abraçou Valery com tanta força que parecia que ia esmagá-lo, repetidamente, esperando que seu sincero sentimento fosse transmitido. Finalmente, Valery reagiu. Embora não o abraçasse de volta, encostou levemente a testa no pescoço de Alexei.
—Eu não vou fugir.
Podia ser uma mentira, mas Alexei decidiu acreditar nele.
—Ryan é uma boa pessoa, então não deve ser prejudicado por minha causa”.
Porque Valeri sempre foi bondoso.
—E… Não posso porque… eu… fiz nó em você…
Por ser tão inocente.
—Tenho que assumir a responsabilidade.
No final, ele acabou confiando em mim assim. Alexei piscou. Seus lábios se fecharam. Por um momento, ele havia esquecido. O que ele disse um dia depois de estuprar Valery. Ele havia cometido a besteira de falar para Valery que poderia ter engravidado por causa do nó. Faz sentido, logicamente falando. Sem usar preservativos, fazendo o nó, misturando seus corpos, recebendo seu sêmen incontáveis vezes, claro que poderia acontecer.
Mas Alexei é um ômega incompleto.
Ouça, Valery. Na verdade, isso é mentira. Eu não estou grávido, não sou um verdadeiro ômega. Então, você não precisa assumir a responsabilidade por mim.
Alexei manteve os lábios fechados. Ele percebeu seu grande erro. Por um momento, ele acreditou na mentira que contou a seu irmão, mas, na verdade, ele era a pessoa que vivia mais profundamente em mentiras. Ele era tão habilidoso que até o enganou.
Ele já havia mentido para Valery.
E depois disse outra mentira ao afirmar que não mentia.
Com medo de dizer essas duas coisas, Alexei ficou em silêncio. Ele apenas abraçou Valery, que pareceu relaxar um pouco mais e apoiava a testa em seu pescoço. Ele não queria perder Valery, quem ele mal havia recuperado com tanta dificuldade. Ele tinha um propósito claro de proteger seu irmão e se dissesse isso a Valery, que estava mostrando um pouco de seu coração, ele certamente não ouviria mais suas palavras.
Ah, sério.
Por que Deus criou um lixo como eu?
Pela primeira vez em sua vida, Alexei sentiu um medo que nunca havia experimentado, nem mesmo diante da morte.
~~~~~~~
Valery adormeceu profundamente. Com um rosto infantil, ele fechou os olhos como se tivesse deixado de lado algo que o preocupou por toda a vida. Depois de alimentar Valeri com pelmeni e observá-lo dormir por um longo tempo, Alexei passou a noite acordado. Sentia como se seus pecados estivessem apenas se acumulando, e que logo seria julgado por isso.
Valery era uma pessoa boa, e Alexei se aproveitou disso para enganá-lo, evitando que ele fosse embora com Ryan. O forçou a fazer sexo e disse que estava grávido. Mesmo que Valery fosse ignorante em relação a relacionamentos normais, Alexei tinha certeza de que essa mentira teria um grande impacto sobre ele.
“Eu tenho que assumir a responsabilidade.”
Alexei refletiu sobre essas palavras, que soavam quase tímidas. Gostava da ideia de que aquele que sempre era protegido agora queria assumir a responsabilidade, e apreciava a calma que Valery mostrou pela primeira vez em tantos anos. Com medo de perder isso, Alexei pensou em outra coisa. Como se estivesse fugindo.
O sol estava nascendo e ele precisava ver Yuri. Ivan, apesar de tudo, era diligente quando se tratava de relatórios, então Alexei precisava ir a sua residência assim que o dia clareasse. Seria bom encontrar Yuri antes disso. Não fazia ideia de como explicaria as coisas.
Olhou para as algemas. Depois de pensar por um longo tempo sobre o que fazer, decidiu manter Valery preso por mais um dia. Tirou as algemas do próprio pulso e as prendeu a um pilar no meio do caminho entre o quarto e o banheiro. A corrente era longa o suficiente para permitir que Valery se movesse entre esses dois lugares.
Como não havia nada apropriado para o café da manhã, Alexei rabiscou um bilhete. O relatório não levaria muito tempo. Embora Ivan pudesse perder a cabeça e bater em alguém, Alexei poderia voltar até o horário do almoço.
[Voltarei em breve. Por favor, entenda, só por hoje. Vou trazer algo que você gosta, Lerusha.]
Como seu número estava bloqueado, fazia muito tempo que ele não deixava uma mensagem. Alexei olhou para o rosto branco e adormecido de Valery, depois pegou seu maço de cigarros escondido e a chave do carro.
Assim que saiu de casa, Yuri ligou. Alexei atendeu enquanto dirigia para a propriedade de Ivan, na periferia da cidade.
—Ainda está bravo?
Yuri respondeu automaticamente quando Alexei fez a pergunta direta.
[Onde você está?]
—Indo ver aquele desgraçado. Estou subindo o Red River.
[Pare aí, preciso conversar com você. Você não pode entrar lá desse jeito.]
Yuri disse isso e desligou o telefone. Embora ele fosse sempre calmo e tranquilo, hoje parecia mais preocupado do que o normal, o que não deixou de chamar a atenção de Alexei. Como Valery havia mencionado, Yuri era o colega e amigo em quem ele mais podia confiar. Embora a traição estivesse sempre à espreita.
Alexei parou o carro e acendeu um cigarro. Depois de quase cinco dias sem fumar, fumou três ou quatro cigarros seguidos. Os faróis piscavam atrás dele. A primavera em Saratov era tão fria, escura e sombria quanto o inverno. O sol poderia nascer mais cedo com a mudança de mês, mas a neve só pararia em junho. Lá era esse tipo de lugar.
Enquanto observava o carro familiar de Yuri pelo retrovisor, viu-o descer. Yuri, vestindo um longo casaco cinza, caminhou pesadamente e entrou no banco do passageiro. O cheiro característico do vento invadiu o carro, o vento nesta época do ano tinha exatamente aquele cheiro.
—Diga logo que besteira você fez.
Assim que fechou a porta, essas foram as primeiras palavras de Yuri. Alexei lhe ofereceu um cigarro.
—É exatamente o que parece. Meu irmãozinho precisava de um ômega, então encontrei um que servisse.
A mão que lhe oferecia o cigarro foi segurada. Ao contrário das vezes anteriores, quando apenas roçava levemente os dedos, dessa vez foi de forma direta, como quando segurou seu ombro no dia anterior. Quando seus olhares se encontraram, os olhos azuis de Yuri estavam fixos diretamente nele. Notou um aroma que normalmente não prestava atenção quando era um alfa. Os feromônios de Yuri pareciam ter um leve cheiro de vento.
—Explique melhor.
Alexei abaixou a cabeça, olhando para a mão que o segurava. Acendeu outro cigarro com o cigarro já aceso. Quando o cigarro começou a queimar, ele levantou o olhar e deu um sorriso. Seus caninos brancos apareceram sob os lábios vermelhos.
—Valery disse que preferia morrer a ficar comigo e que queria encontrar Ryan Winter, então achei melhor resolver isso pessoalmente. Todos os ômegas que encontrei ou tinham passado pelas mãos de Ivan, ou eram conhecidos nossos. Os que T-Mac apresentou foram descobertos assim que se aproximaram de Valery.
Os olhos azuis de Yuri escureceram. Era uma emoção difícil de ler. Sua mão apertou com força a de Alexei, mas logo ele recuou lentamente.
—Como você conseguiu o remédio?
—Do médico que que ajuda Ivan com essas coisas pervertidas.
Alexei respondeu meticulosamente a Yuri, que o interrogava como um policial. Ele era quem mais cuidava do homem, então ele tinha que entender.
—Foi o T-Mac que te apresentou?
—Uau, você é um detetive.
Mesmo com a resposta leve, Yuri não sorriu como sempre. Ele passou a mão pelo cabelo com uma expressão de frustração. Pegando o cigarro aceso, Yuri deu uma longa tragada, depois de engolir a fumaça, ele olhou para fora da janela e então começou a falar.
—Você…
Yuri balançou a cabeça, ele engoliu algo e suspirou baixinho. Em seguida, tirou um pequeno spray do bolso.
—É um desodorizador de feromônios, borrife isso antes de ir.
—O cheiro está forte?
Alexei pensou que os feromônios deviam ser fracos, já que Valery não notou seu estado imediatamente. Altor também havia dito isso.
—Os feromônios do seu irmão estão impregnados em você.
Foi o que Yuri disse. Alexei pegou o spray, pensando que, se Valery era como um coelho, Yuri era como um leopardo difícil de lidar, e precisava ser acalmado.
—Venha aqui, Yuri.
Os olhos azuis o fuzilaram.
—Você precisa verificar. Além dos feromônios de Lerusha, também tem o meu cheiro? Eu sei bem as coisas nojentas que Ivan faria se descobrisse isso.
Claro que sabemos, você e eu.
Yuri olhou para Alexei sem expressão. Com uma respiração silenciosa, ele se aproximou mais e mais, a uma distância muito próxima, onde nunca haviam se tocado antes. Alexei sentiu os feromônios grudarem nele, causando uma sensação estranha. Seu corpo reagiu. Algo doce grudou nele, e um arrepio desceu por sua espinha de forma estranha…
O nariz tocou a nuca dele. A ponte do nariz, alta e firme, roçou seu pescoço e logo a sensação de uma respiração profunda foi percebida. Foi estranho. Sentindo um formigamento nos dedos, Alexei apertou e soltou o punho levemente. Era só sentir o cheiro, mas ele franziu a testa com a sensação estranha.
—Yuri.
A ponta do nariz se esfregou em sua pele. O som de uma respiração profunda ecoou, suas orelhas estavam coçando.
—Tem um cheiro bom. —No momento em que Alexei ia dizer que era o suficiente, Yuri sussurrou. Ainda com o rosto enterrado na nuca dele. O baixo murmúrio ressoou. — Cheiro como você.
—O que é isso?”
—Parece leve e sinto que não consigo sentir nada, mas se olhar mais de perto… …
Yuri levantou a cabeça lentamente, encontrando seus olhos de perto.
—É um cheiro que faz as pessoas enlouquecerem.
A emoção que tremulava nos olhos azuis era estranha. Alexei olhou nos olhos claros de Yuri em silêncio. Era a primeira vez que Yuri, a quem ele conhecia a vida toda, falava assim. Tanto em palavras, quanto na clareza das emoções que ele mostrava para Alexei.
Ele está com certeza, pelo menos nesse momento.
—Valery não poderá te proteger.
Eu posso dizer claramente que Yuri me queria.
—Ninguém precisa me proteger.
Alexei disse, endurecendo a expressão. Ele sabia melhor do que ninguém que alfas podiam ser influenciados pelos feromônios de um ômega. Não é como se ele não tivesse percebido, Valery, mesmo sendo gentil, mudou seu comportamento depois de perceber que Alexei era um ômega. Ele sabia que Yuri poderia se comportar assim também.
Mas Alexei não tinha intenção de ser manipulado por ninguém, exceto Igor.
Ele não tinha vontade de deixar isso acontecer e, ao mesmo tempo, tinha capacidade de resistir. Nada mudou só pelo fato de ser um ômega. Se alguém tentar me controlar com feromônios, vou fazer eles pagarem. Ele ainda tinha sua força e não permitiria que aqueles feromônios malditos o dominassem.
Além disso, isso é apenas temporário.
—Disseram que podem fazer um remédio para eu voltar a ser um alfa. Afinal as características não podem mudar completamente.
Yuri olhou para Alexei em silêncio. Pensando bem, Yuri sempre me olhou assim. Talvez Yuri, desde sempre…
Não, ele balançou a cabeça como se estivesse negando. Apagou o cigarro que estava rapidamente se consumindo e pegou outro. Yuri recuou lentamente, inclinando-se no banco do carona. Olhando para a neve que começava a cair novamente, ele disse calmamente.
—É melhor que seja assim.
—Por quê?
—Porque eu sei o que Ivan vai dizer hoje.
Um pressentimento ruim.
—Ontem à noite, Leto foi preso. Se eles estão começando a mexer com intermediários como ele, isso significa que Khaleesi Winter está se preparando para agir seriamente.
Leto era um intermediário que vendia cocaína em Saratov. Ele já esperava por isso, mas a mulher agiu mais rápido do que pensava. Ela decidiu descer até aqui para atacar Igor Volkov.
—Alyosha.
Yuri olhou nos olhos dele novamente.
—As pessoas vão morrer de novo, assim como no passado que vivemos. Igor vai querer que todos da família Winter morram. Isso inclui aquele ômega que você tentou afastar de Valery.
Ryan Winter.
Alexei murmurou esse nome em silêncio.
—Desta vez, pode ser que não consigamos escapar. Provavelmente sim. Não vejo Igor agir assim desde os tempos do meu pai. Então…
Alexei também sabia o que ele queria dizer.
—Aquele cara que você afirma ser seu irmão nunca vai te perdoar.
Se Ryan Winter se machucasse, Valery nunca o perdoaria. Mesmo que ele não estivesse envolvido, Ryan acabaria morrendo.
E isso seria exatamente o oposto do motivo pelo qual Valery estava cooperando com ele.
~~~~~~~~
A mansão de Igor estava localizada na fronteira. Ele comprou um terreno desabitado entre Saratov e Fargo, transformando-o em seu próprio castelo. Apenas um pequeno número de pessoas podia entrar e sair dali: a família próxima de Igor e seus associados.
Subindo uma colina íngreme, a longa muralha da mansão aparecia. Era um lugar construído com dinheiro sujo, então era incrivelmente grande. Estranhamente, ele parecia querer comprar algo chamado elegância com dinheiro. Longas câmeras de vigilância retangulares verificaram o carro e o rosto dele, logo o portão de ferro se abriu e Alexei viu os capangas de Vadim perambulando pelo jardim. Submetralhadoras como UZI e MP5 refletiam uma luz fosca.
Esses idiotas não podem fazer nada sem uma arma.
Alexei jogou fora o cigarro e saiu do carro. Um dos subordinados de Vadim fez um gesto com a cabeça, indicando que todos já estavam reunidos. Ao entrar, as paredes de vidro espalhavam a luz do sol, descendo ao porão, ele encontrou a família Volkov na mesa.
—Alyosha, meu filho leal.
Igor riu roucamente e acenou com a mão, sua voz carregava os traços da idade. Ivan estava ao lado dele, folheando papéis sem interesse.
—Sim, pai.
Igor chamava a todos de família, então os títulos eram uniformes, era um título repulsivo de se ouvir e falar, mas Alexei sorriu e sentou-se na cadeira. Yuri sentou-se bem ao lado dele, na maior distância possível de Ivan e Igor.
—Por que sentar aí? Tão distante. Venham os dois para cá.
Ivan, que nunca havia sido útil, estava especialmente irritante hoje. Ele bateu na cadeira ao seu lado, indicando o lugar. Yuri olhou para Alexei. Vendo o rosto rígido de Yuri, Alexei estalou a língua. Está mais óbvio no seu rosto, Yuri.
—Se você quiser.
Recusar não era uma opção com Ivan. Alexei afastou a cadeira rangendo e caminhou para sentar ao lado dele, Yuri o seguiu novamente, sentando-se pesadamente. Ivan sorriu amplamente e apoiou o queixo na mão.
—Você perdeu peso. Parece que se divertiu enquanto esteve fora.
—O que quer dizer?
Alexei respondeu lentamente.
—Não se faça de desentendido. O cheiro de ômega está por toda parte.
Ele fechou a boca. Podia sentir os feromônios de Yuri, ao seu lado, ondulando tensos. Alexei olhou para Ivan sem expressão. Ele percebeu? Mesmo que o cheiro não estivesse presente, a ausência dos feromônios típicos de um alfa podia ser notada. Apesar do sorriso preguiçoso, sua boca estava um pouco seca.
—Quanto você passou fodendo que precisou de desodorante?
Ivan começou a fazer piadas grosseiras, rindo. Vadim sorriu, e Igor acendeu um charuto, rindo baixinho.
—Quando te oferecemos um ômega pela primeira vez, você disse que não precisava. Agora, cresceu, não é?
Igor tossiu fortemente ao soltar uma grande nuvem de fumaça de charuto, e a sala de reuniões no porão ficou em silêncio enquanto ele tossia. Depois de um tempo, ele foi direto ao ponto.
—Então, Leto foi pego.
Bogdan, que estava em pé em silêncio, avançou. Com a cabeça raspada e uma tatuagem de Nossa Senhora, ele era, por assim dizer, o braço direito e guarda-costas de Igor.
—Sim. Os novos porcos invadiram o local e o levaram.”
— Khaleesi, Khaleesi, Khaleesi…
Igor murmurou o nome de Khaleesi Winter como um lamento, empurrando um arquivo para Alexei e Yuri. Vadim também recebeu um arquivo.
—Me lembra da primeira vez que vim aqui. Havia muitos idiotas agindo sem saber quem era o dono do terreno. Limpamos tudo, e como baratas, eles voltaram…
Alexei, ignorando as palavras de Igor, abriu a pasta. Lá havia fotos. Fotos de Khaleesi Winter, seu marido, seus filhos e todas as pessoas relacionadas a ela. Havia fotos de colegas da delegacia, babás, colegas de trabalho do marido, e também de Ryan Winter.
—Além de Leto na última semana, mais cinco pessoas foram presas em um mês. Isso, bem, tudo bem, pois só afeta esta pequena cidade. Mas, Yuri, escute. Logo ela vai chegar até a fábrica.
Ivan, que normalmente não gostava de Yuri, de repente dirigiu-se a ele. Yuri olhou para ele em silêncio.
—E então ela vai mexer até na pizzaria do seu amigo Alyosha. E como um rato, vai ficar de um lado para o outro, perturbando todas as lavanderias.
—É mesmo.
Ao ouvir a resposta indiferente de Yuri, Alexei deu um chute em sua canela, Yuri não se mexeu, e a expressão de Ivan se contorceu. Ele olhou para Igor. Igor assentiu com a cabeça.
—Limpe.
Ivan jogou a foto. Nela estava Khaleesi Winter junto com um novo agente do Departamento de Controle. Ele era um homem bonito, com cabelos loiros claros, olhos suaves e traços densos que faziam você admirar sua beleza só de olhar para ele.
—Dante Rieri. Neto de italianos, veio de Nova York com ela. Parece que Khaleesi o criou. Talvez até tenha dormido com ele, mesmo tendo um marido.
Yuri olhou fixamente para a foto. Yuri não era diferente de Alexei, eles haviam feito de tudo, exceto matar alguém diretamente. E todos os alvos eram apenas gângsteres mesquinhos lutando por território. Nunca haviam enfrentado policiais. Porque até então, nunca houve necessidade.
—……
Yuri pegou a foto lentamente.
—Dê o exemplo como antes, Yuri. Seu pai traidor era bom nisso. Encontrava os ratos infiltrados na organização, matava-os e depois caminhava calmamente até a delegacia. Espero que, ao menos, tenha herdado esse sangue.
Igor falou calmamente. Sua linguagem era suave, mas o significado era claro. Eles eram filhos de traidores, que estavam destinados a se tornar bucha de canhão, sobrevivendo sob a “generosidade” de Igor.
Nesse meio tempo, Ivan jogou outras fotos para Alexei.
—Alyosha, Alyosha, Alyosha.
Como se estivesse animado, ele pessoalmente desdobrou várias fotos.
—Você vai ter a oportunidade de lidar com essa beldade.
Ele abaixou o olhar lentamente. Quando viu o cabelo preto e os olhos azuis, Alexei praguejou mentalmente.
Maldito seja. Só se importa com a aparência.
Ryan estava sorrindo para frente. Alexei folheou lentamente as fotos sem mostrar nenhum sinal de agitação. Ryan estava vestido de maneiras diferentes em cada foto, quase como se fossem tiradas por diferentes pessoas. Entre elas, havia uma foto de Ryan Winter na noite em que foi assistir ao show de Valery. Era evidente.
Um suor frio começou a escorrer por suas costas.
Ele quase deixou seus dedos tremerem quando folheava as fotos. Ele temia que, por trás dessas fotos, pudesse ver Valery com Ryan. Prendendo a respiração, ele continuou folheando as fotos. Não podia permitir que isso acontecesse na boate.
O estado de tensão extrema continuou a apertar. Sem pestanejar, ele terminou de examinar as fotos, não havia nenhuma foto de Valery. Assim que terminou Alexei sentiu um alívio momentâneo, mas então Igor disse:
—Isto não é limpeza. É execução.
Ao ouvir isso, Yuri e Alexei olharam para frente. Até mesmo Vadim olhou para Igor com surpresa. Execução era algo que nenhum deles havia feito antes.
—Depois de tê-los torturado até implorarem por misericórdia, matem-nos e pendurem seus corpos na frente da casa dela.
Igor acendeu um cigarro. Mesmo com o rosto enrugado e pálido, ele irradiava vida. Era a mesma imagem de quando ele forçou Alexei a espancar Valery.
Se houver um demônio que até no inferno não seria recebido, seria Igor.
—Isso é com você, Alyosha. É o começo da sua expiação. Não me decepcione como fez seu pai.
Igor disse calmamente.
—A execução…
Alyosha interrompeu casualmente.
—Não seria mais adequado para Khaleesi Winter, pai?
Igor olhou para ele com orgulho. Depois de sorrir satisfatoriamente, ele balançou a cabeça.
—Não. Ainda é cedo. Preciso mostrar o passado àquela vadia. Ela se atreveu a rastejar de volta até aqui sem nem saber do assunto, então vou dar um presente para ela sentir o momento em que essa vagabunda vai enlouquecer ao perder tudo.
Igor apagou seu sorriso lentamente. Então ele encarou Alexei diretamente. Um arrepio percorreu a espinha dele.
—Então faça direito. Se não…
—Hmm,— ele começou a cantarolar. Igor bateu na mesa com o dedo grosso, como se tivesse uma boa ideia. — Sim. Isso seria bom. Ivan, qual era o nome da beleza loira?
Assim que ouviu a palavra “loira”, ele ficou sem ar.
—Valery.
—É isso mesmo, Ele parecia tão bonito, mas era uma pena porque era um Alfa… parece que ele ainda está com ele.
Igor riu como se estivesse satisfeito. Ivan também sorriu maliciosamente para Alexei.
—Com suas habilidades, Alyosha, não há como falhar. Mas, se por acaso você falhar, cortaremos o tornozelo desse tal Valery como punição. Se falhar novamente, o braço. E se ainda assim falhar, a cabeça. O que acha?
Um sorriso verdadeiramente alegre apareceu nos lábios de Igor como se ele estivesse esperando por este dia há muito tempo.
—Não está ansioso por isso?
