Assim, Carlyle expressou sua gratidão em voz baixa. Ele sentiu um leve constrangimento em sua voz, talvez Ash tenha notado, pois ele sorriu de leve ao encontrarem seus olhares. A expressão que parecia achar adorável o deixou desconfortável, então Carlyle desviou levemente o olhar. Os olhos cinzentos se moviam sutilmente, como se estivessem buscando outro lugar, tão delicadamente quanto as asas de uma andorinha.
Nas últimas semanas, o mundo de Carlyle mudou completamente. A mudança mais significativa foi em seu relacionamento com Ash. Tudo começou depois que ele rasgou os papéis do divórcio prestes a serem entregues e recebeu uma proposta de casamento sincera.
Agora, Carlyle finalmente entendia seus próprios sentimentos.
Ele estava perdidamente apaixonado pelo homem chamado Ash Jones e sabia que Ash também não estava ao seu lado por obrigação. O que ele pensava estar em páginas diferentes acabou por estar no mesmo lugar por um longo tempo. Ele apenas não sabiam como expressar isso.

“Mas eu sou um homem forte. Mesmo sem ser um alfa dominante, ainda sou mais forte do que a maioria dos alfas. E minha saúde está bem agora, então Ash não precisa se preocupar com cada pequena coisa.”

“Cuidar de Lyle me deixa muito feliz.”
Quando Ash falou essas palavras ecoaram como se estivesse fazendo uma confissão chorosa de joelhos. Olhando para os olhos cinza e azul cheios de sinceridade, não conseguiu dizer que não.
“…. isso não é incômodo?”
“De jeito nenhum.”
Ash, sem perceber, aumentou um pouco o tom de voz e, surpreso consigo mesmo, piscou rapidamente antes de se inclinar para mais perto. Então, ele disse suavemente, como se estivesse sussurrando em seu ouvido.
“Desculpe. Eu te assustei ao falar alto não foi?”
“Não.”
Apesar de ter falado num tom normal e habitualmente suave, Ash se repreendeu internamente e fechou os lábios com um semblante reflexivo.
“Eu estava apenas um pouco preocupado. Enquanto nosso filho está dentro de você, me sinto angustiado por estar te causando problemas mesmo que sem intenção, eu realmente quero poder cuidar de você.”
Foi doloroso para Carlyle perceber que Ash não entendia seu coração e estava pensando em divórcio, mas o erro também foi dele por não contar sobre a gravidez. Ele queria dizer que não era necessário, mas os olhos de Ash encontraram os dele.
Então, por cerca de 10 segundos, os dois trocaram olhares. Como raramente olhavam diretamente nos olhos um do outro sem dizer nada, o coração de Carlyle começou a bater mais rápido devido à crescente tensão.

Ele queria desviar, mas não conseguiu. Preso pelos olhos cativantes, Carlyle finalmente cedeu como se estivesse se rendendo e disse suavemente.

Carlyle observou em silêncio enquanto Ash conversava habilmente com Archibald. Embora fosse um gesto natural tratar bem um parteiro tão habilidoso, ele teve uma sensação passageira de que Ash estava sorrindo um pouco demais para o outro homem.

Ele apagou os pensamentos vergonhosos que surgiram, sem deixar rastro. Após encerrar a conversa, Ash suavemente afagou os ombros de Carlyle antes de se retirar, deixando um silêncio encher a sala de estar.
O parteiro estava visivelmente tenso. Embora Carlyle tenha sido informado de que ele era bem-sucedido na alta sociedade, o homem nunca havia tido conexões com a aristocracia, o que provavelmente era o motivo do seu nervosismo. Quando Carlyle estava prestes a abrir a boca para aliviar a tensão, Archibald falou primeiro.
—Eu… sinto muito pelo que aconteceu antes. Fui rude.
—Do que está falando?
—Bem…
—Se está surpreso por causa do meu gênero, é compreensível, então não precisa se desculpar. Não é algo que aconteça com frequência.

Quando Archibald seguiu a direção do olhar de Carlyle, Ash apareceu. Ele tinha trazido uma bandeja com uma chaleira, xícaras de chá e até sanduíches, e foi direto até o encontro de Carlyle.
—Espero não estar muito atrasado, Lyle?
—Não, nós apenas conversamos sobre algumas orientações.
—Que alívio. Eu não queria perder nada sobre Bonbon, então me apreciei.
Um sorriso tímido, quase como o de um menino, apareceu no rosto de Ash. Suas bochechas rosadas pareciam adoráveis, tanto que Carlyle sentiu uma imensa vontade de protegê-lo. Para não perder nenhum momento de sua alegria, Carlyle olhou para ele sem piscar, e logo Ash se aproximou dele.
Depois de servir um chá de rooibos especialmente preparado para Carlyle, Ash também ofereceu um chá preto para Archibald. Foi só quando ele se sentou ao lado deles que os feromônios de Ash envolveram naturalmente o corpo de Carlyle. Parecia que ele já estava se preparando para o papel de pai, pois ultimamente Ash parecia estar liberando seus feromônios com mais frequência, quase como se estivesse agindo por instinto.
Enquanto sentia esses adoráveis feromônios, Carlyle observou silenciosamente Archibald. Diante de uma pressão silenciosa, Archibald mudou sua expressão para uma mais brilhante e começou a conversar com Ash.
—O apelido da criança é Bonbon?
—Sim, foi assim que decidimos chamá-lo. Vamos escolher o nome mais tarde.

Assim que a permissão foi concedida, Ash retirou o caderno que havia trazido consigo e fez todo tipo de pergunta possível.
