A terceira reunião não foi uma semana depois, contrário das expectativas de Carlyle. Nesse ínterim, o tempo passou sem que marcassem uma data. Ash, que entraria em contato com ele, não o contactou por quatro dias. Mesmo que pensasse que receberia uma ligação quando chegasse a hora, estava preocupado sem saber o motivo da demora. Sentia que estava no meio de uma tarefa não resolvida.
Assim como nos dias em que contratos difíceis de assinar se arrastavam por muito tempo, seus nervos estavam à flor da pele e isso incomodou Carlyle por dias. Era incômodo. Eles nem tinham passado muito tempo juntos. Sua mãe estava acelerando os preparativos para o casamento. Nesse ritmo, iriam se casar no próximo mês.

O som da música, que havia sido abafado, de repente ficou mais alto e os arredores ficaram barulhentos. As seis moedas em sua mão pareciam inúteis depois de ouvir essas palavras. As palavras de que ele ganhou por uma pequena diferença passaram para seus ouvidos.

As luzes dos postes na rua espalhavam-se sobre a água da chuva que escorria na estrada. As luzes brilhavam por todo o lado, substituindo o céu sem sol, fazendo a mansão do Marquês parecer glamourosa mesmo na noite nublada.
Como teria sido problemático ficar esperando no portão principal, em meio aos carros, Carlyle pediu ao seu motorista para deixá-lo a um quarteirão de distância. Agradecendo a preocupação do condutor sobre ele se molhar por causa da chuva, ele saiu do carro.
Depois de deixar o carro, Carlyle percebeu que tinha esquecido o guarda-chuva que o condutor tinha deixado no banco da frente. O motorista também parecia ter notado isso, então o carro parado voltou a se mover, mas Carlyle apenas balançou a cabeça quando o carro correu atrás dele. A mansão estava mesmo à sua frente, por isso, se se molhasse um pouco, secaria rapidamente. Estava habituado com dias chuvosos.
Depois de caminhar alguns passos, as gotas de chuva molharam seus cabelos. A chuva começou a cair mais forte do que ele esperava por causa disso Carlyle apressou seus passos. Gotas de água corriam pelos seus sapatos pretos que se moviam a grandes passadas. De repente a chuva parou.
— ……?
Quando levantou a cabeça para a chuva que parou repentinamente, uma sombra caiu sobre ele. Um grande guarda-chuva preto foi colocado sobre sua cabeça.
— Oi.
Ao ouvir a saudação logo atrás dele, Carlyle virou assustado. Olhos curvados estavam olhando para ele.
— Ash?

Apenas quando Ash falou isso, Carlyle percebeu que o tinha feito. Considerando que levou meses para dizer o nome de seu amigo íntimo, Aiden Haywood, isso era no mínimo intrigante. Talvez tenha se descuidado por tê-lo encontrado em um lugar inesperado.
Carlyle, que tentava corrigir seu erro, hesitou ao ver o rosto sorridente de Ash. Ash ficou ao lado de Carlyle segurando o guarda chuva por perto.
— É bom ouvir Carlyle chamando meu nome.
Ficou ele tão satisfeito com isso? Hesitando, Carlyle decidiu esquecer por agora. Se ele queria ser chamado assim, não havia razão para não se atrever a fazê-lo. Já era hora de chamá-lo pelo nome. Se vamos nos casar, ah.., não é bem assim, mas é verdade que precisamos continuar nos vendo de qualquer forma.
— Parece que outras pessoas não te chamam pelo nome com frequência.

Ash pensou por um momento e então sorriu.

Ash riu da pergunta de Carlyle.
— Vamos entrar primeiro? Carlyle parece odiar chegar atrasado.
Na verdade, não precisava chegar pontualmente na festa do Marquês Gordon, porque o homem não estabelecia uma hora precisa. Com um leve aceno de cabeça, Ash assumiu a liderança.

Ash abaixou levemente o guarda-chuva que estava segurando um pouco acima do nível dos olhos. O significado da mão que parou silenciosamente à sua frente era óbvio.

Um dos servos que recolhia os guarda-chuva reconheceu Carlyle e se aproximou dele. Nenhum Nobre poderia estar ali sem convite, então era natural que os funcionários memorizassem os rostos de quem participava do evento. Enquanto Ash baixava o guarda-chuva, Carlyle finalmente respirou fundo.
— Já chegamos.

Ash perguntou, esfregando a mão que estava segurando. Era como um apelo, então não podia recusar, e não havia razão para isso.
— Não importa.
Enquanto trocavam histórias, eles de repente entraram no salão principal onde era colocada a comida para a festa. O Marquês Gordon foi visto à distância. Ele costumava dar festa, mas era uma pessoa difícil de se ver e desaparecia repentinamente. Por causa disso todos faziam questão de comparecer aos eventos oferecidos por ele.
Nunca tinha estado num evento com um parceiro, por isso ele se sentiu um pouco auto-consciente dos olhares. Ash parecia pensar a mesma coisa, por isso naturalmente ambos se viraram para partir, só para serem interrompidos por um intruso.
— Carlyle.
