A noite passada Carlyle não dormiu no mesmo lugar que Ash. Ele jamais teria imaginado passar por isso um dia. O resultado não foi dos melhores. Carlyle passou a noite toda acordado. Não conseguiu dormir de jeito nenhum.
Sentia como se sua vitalidade tivesse se esgotado e nada podia ser feito. Ele achava que estava mais confiante do que qualquer outra pessoa em manter sua cara de pôquer e compostura, mas Carlyle estava confuso devido ao conflito com Ash. Ainda mais porque o conflito foi estupidamente iniciado por ele primeiro.
Não acredito que acabei discutindo com Ash.
Como se isso não bastasse, ele afastou a mão de Ash e se recusou a deixar o homem tocá-lo. Parecia uma grande mentira, A ideia de afastar a pessoa a quem sempre teve sede de alcançar, era ridícula. Mas realmente aconteceu.
Era estranho ficar por perto, então Carlyle se manteve longe, exceto ontem a tarde, quando teve que se despedir dos convidados. Todos pareciam ter notado algo, assim que eles apareceram com uma atitude que contrastava fortemente com a noite anterior. O ômega chamado Ron, que disse ter dado o número de Ash, olhou para eles impacientemente, e depois foi embora. Natalie olhou preocupada para Carlyle e logo trocou algumas palavras com Ash. A celebração de inauguração da casa, que deveria ter terminado agradavelmente, deu errado e ele não queria conversar com Ash. A atmosfera na mansão era terrível. O ar era asfixiante, vago e sombrio. Eles deveriam ir para Whipsnade em Bedfordshire, não muito longe de Londres depois da festa de ontem. Achou que seria melhor organizar calmamente as ideias e pensar em como deveria falar com Ash. Ele pegou um pedaço de papel branco. Com a outra mão pegou a caneta-tinteiro e anotou tudo.
Escreveu o número 1. Primeiro queria pedir desculpa por se comportar de forma rude e por o empurrá-lo para fora. Depois, perguntar que tipo de relação ele tinha com a pessoa chamada Hazel…. o que deveria dizer depois que ouviu sobre isso?
Carlyle, que anotava os números, deu de cara com seu egoísmo e verdadeiros sentimentos. Ele queria ser a pessoa mais importante para Ash. Queria ser o melhor no passado e no presente. Se tivesse que perguntar sobre isso, queria pedir isso a Ash, criando belas memórias inesquecíveis. No entanto, seria contraditório preparar-se para tal situação quando ele estava tão zangado. Além disso, não podia ignorar a possibilidade de Ash ter ficado aborrecido com ele depois de ontem.

Carlyle procurou em todos os quartos, banheiros e nas dispensas, antes de descer para a cozinha onde encontrou um bilhete. As suas mãos, que estavam tremendo de ansiedade, acalmaram-se gradualmente quando o viu. Havia também um pequeno café da manhã na bandeja de madeira onde a nota foi colocada. Pode ver torradas francesas com feijão bem cozido, purê de batata e um suco separado. Tinha também uma salada rústica e um ovo meio cozido num potinho de porcelana.
As pontas de seus dedos formigavam. Carlyle caminhou para a frente com os lábios franzidos. Na nota bem colocada, a caligrafia elegante de Ashe foi escrita de uma forma pitoresca.

Carlyle olhou para ele com as sobrancelhas franzidas. O número que mudava lentamente logo marcou L. A porta se abriu. Do outro lado da porta aberta estava Ash, sua expressão congelou. Atrás dele estava o homem com quem conversava no escritório. Podia sentir o cheiro doce do Omega. Ao vê-los parecendo um casal só por estarem perto, seu coração encolheu mais ao mesmo tempo, seu sangue parecia fever. Não queria que Ash ficasse perto dele.
— Veio até aqui só para ir embora sem me dirigir uma única palavra?
Antes que Carlyle pudesse dizer qualquer coisa, Ash agarrou seu pulso, não se importando com Hazel atrás dele. A força com a qual agarrava o braço tão firmemente, como se não fosse deixá-lo escapar, chegava a ser ultrajante. Carlyle piscou atordoado diante da ação inesperada.

Hazel respirou fundo. Era esse o tipo de conversa que acontecia no andar de cima? Os olhos de Carlyle se tornaram frios como gelo. Mas ao contrário de antes, a Hazel não se deixou intimidar pela forte ferocidade de Carlyle. Como um homem desesperado, ele abriu a boca.

— Houve um tempo em que eu gostava desse aspecto do meu sênior. Mas isso ficou no passado. Diga-me. Já que você tomou a liberdade de vir até aqui sem ser convidado, acho que pode me responder uma pergunta.

— Por que?

Hazel finalmente começou a chorar como se essas palavras despertassem um sentimento de culpa nele. Os belos olhos estavam lacrimejando. As lágrimas que brotaram dos olhos puros estimularam a simpatia. A hostilidade de Carlyle se suavizou por um momento. Não porque sentia pena de seu oponente, mas porque de certa forma era estranho que Ash pudesse ser tão frio.
— ….. Me desculpe.
Apesar da voz chorosa, Ash não recuou.

Carlyle logo se deu conta que o homem tinha magoado Ash. A hostilidade que havia diminuído por um tempo aumentou drasticamente. Carlyle inconscientemente olhou para Hazel com um rosto frio. Mas ele não abriu a boca. Sua expressão falava pelos seus sentimentos.
A respiração trêmula se acalmou e Hazel assentiu.
— Sinto muito, Ash.
Ash ficou em silêncio por alguns segundos. A mão que segurava Carlyle ganhou força mais uma vez.
— Não somos nada um pro outro, então não se desculpe.
Com as palavras de Ash Hazel começou a chorar novamente. Ash levou Carlyle para longe da figura. Em vez de pedir a Hazel para sair, Ash calmamente deixou a empresa com Carlyle.

O silêncio continuou mesmo depois de terem deixado a empresa. Carlyle não encontrou o momento certo para falar e seguiu Ash em silêncio. Depois de caminhar durante algum tempo segurando o pulso de Carlyle, Ash parou numa viela deserta. Ele se virou.
— Me diga agora.
Carlyle olhou para ele surpreso. As emoções confusas e negativas que enchiam seu coração foram drenadas há pouco pela cena que tinha acabado de assistir. Agora estava tomando por um sentimento de pesar e tristeza em relação a Ash.
— … O que você está perguntando exatamente?
Carlyle perguntou cautelosamente com uma voz rouca. Ash estava olhando para ele com os braços cruzados.
— O que você pensou quando me viu no elevador com Hazel? Achou que eu deixaria Lyle para ficar com essa pessoa?
Carlyle estava prestes a balançar a cabeça, mas lembrou que havia pensado nisso, mesmo que por um breve instante, e não podia negar. Incapaz de responder de qualquer forma, afirmou com seu silêncio. Tinha vergonha de si mesmo. Ash respirou fundo. Seu hálito parecia estar misturado com um rosnado.
— Eu compreendo. Isso é provavelmente porque eu não fui transparente o suficiente com Lyle.
— Não é isso.
Ele apressadamente negou as palavras de Ash e segurou seu braço. Ash olhou calmamente para Carlyle.
— Eu, eu não sou o suficiente… Não dei ouvidos a Ash e tive pensamentos ruins.
Ash ficou em silêncio por alguns segundos. Carlyle olhou para ele com olhos lamentáveis. A expressão de Ash lentamente começou a relaxar novamente. Ash, que estava franzindo a testa como se estivesse aborrecido, não perdeu tempo e tocou o rosto do outro.
— Eu não posso ficar zangado se você fizer uma cara dessas.
Você está zangado? Ou não está mais bravo? Carlyle ponderou as palavras de Ash para julgar cuidadosamente. Enquanto isso, colocou um pouco mais de pressão na mão que segurava o braço do homem. Então Ash soltou seu braço e agarrou a mão de Carlyle. Uma sensação de alívio se espalhou rapidamente. O seu rosto se iluminou involuntariamente.
— Como você viu antes, Hazel não significa mais nada para mim. Na verdade, essa pessoa significa menos do que qualquer outra. Estou com raiva porque você é eu obrigamos por causa de alguém assim. Como você pode se convencer disso sem nem mesmo me ouvir?
Ele tinha razão em estar zangado. Carlyle olhou silenciosamente para baixo, enquanto segurava a mão de Ash. Mais uma vez a sua expressão escureceu.
— Eu estava errado.
— Está se desculpando?
Ash perguntou suavemente. Carlyle concordou rapidamente.
— Sim. Eu sinto muito.
Com isso, Ash soltou a mão de Carlyle. Quando soltou a mão que ele estava segurando desesperadamente, Carlyle abriu bem os olhos, como se tivesse sido abandonado. Vendo aquela expressão, Ash deu um pequeno sorriso.
— Então, por favor, me dê um abraço o mais depressa possível. Estou louco para te abraçar desde ontem.
Com essas palavras, Ash abriu os braços. Um sorriso tímido apareceu no rosto de Carlyle. Incapaz de conter sua alegria, ele abraçou Ash com força. O puxou para seus braços e enterrou o rosto em seu pescoço. Ash sussurrou enquanto abraçava Carlyle.
— Eu também sinto muito. Quando o nome de Hazel foi mencionado, eu deveria ter explicado. Deveria ter contado tudo ali mesmo, mas tomei a decisão errada. Você me perdoa?
Carlyle assentiu várias vezes. Esfregando o nariz no pescoço de Ash, ele respondeu docemente.
— Não é sua culpa, Ash. Porque eu ouvi arbitrariamente as conversas de outras pessoas e as julguei por conta própria… não farei isso de novo.
Os braços firmes abraçaram Carlyle com tanta força até o ponto de doer, então relaxaram seu aperto. Ash disse, bagunçando o cabelo de Carlyle com as mãos.
— Foi a nossa primeira briga. Certo?
Ele ponderou sobre a palavra “briga”. Quando estava naquela situação, se sentiu a pessoa mais infeliz do mundo, mas depois que o conflito foi resolvido estava se sentindo muito mais leve. Sentia-se fresco como se tivesse lavado seu interior.
— Sinto muito.
— Não. Fico feliz que Lyle tenha se aberto tanto comigo. Sendo seres humanos, os relacionamentos nem sempre podem ser perfeitos.
A mão que estava acariciando seu cabelo esfregou sua bochecha. As pontas dos dedos dele tocaram seus olhos.
— Eu não me importo que Lyle fique zangado. Eu só não quero que você esconda isso. Se precisar de tempo, eu lhe darei tempo. Mas por favor não me interpretem mal por sua conta sem me perguntar.
Era inacreditável que o emaranhado de emoções que parecia difícil de se resolver pudesse ser resolvido assim. Ele próprio se odiou por empurrar Ash para fora imaturamente, mas Ash disse que estava tudo bem que se comportasse assim. Sentindo-se tomado por algo, Carlyle olhou para cima, encontrou os olhos de Ash e sussurrou.
— Eu farei.
O rosto que parecia ainda ter alguma tensão finalmente voltou para o Ash que ele conhecia. Ash beijou seus olhos com um rosto cansado mas amoroso.
— Obrigado.
Carlyle quase derramou as lágrimas que conseguiu conter na noite anterior quando Ash disse que estava grato por sua resposta. Ele ficou envergonhado com as lágrimas, então as conteve, mas os cantos de seus olhos ficaram ligeiramente vermelhos. Ash não disse nada e puxou Carlyle ainda mais para perto, colando seus lábios nos dele.

A viagem de volta para casa foi tranquila, mas não desconfortável. Eles chegaram em casa tendo como pano de fundo um silêncio pacífico.
— Você comeu o que eu preparei?
Quando Ash abriu a porta, ele verificou primeiro se Carlyle tinha comido. Carlyle, que atendeu fielmente ao pedido de Ash, respondeu rapidamente, esperando fazê-lo se sentir melhor.
— Sim. Estava uma delícia.
— Isso é um alívio. Lyle não comeu nada por isso eu também não senti vontade de comer.
Então, Ash ainda não comeu nada?
— Você pulou as refeições?
— Como posso comer se Lyle não queria se alimentar?
A culpa invadiu a consciência de Carlyle. Como uma criança que cometeu um grande erro, Carlyle agarrou o dedo de Ash.
— Eu realmente sinto muito. Por minha causa…
— Eu te deixei chateado. Ainda assim, não pule refeições de agora em diante. Não, eu vou me certificar de não aborrecer mais Lyle.
Ash sorriu, balançando gentilmente seu dedo fechado.
— Vamos fazer algo delicioso para o jantar? Só para nós dois.
— Sim.
Carlyle respondeu como se estivesse impaciente para ouvir alguma coisa. Ash soltou uma pequena risada e o conduziu.
O jantar foi decidido por um risoto. Enquanto Ash fazia o risoto com cogumelos brancos fatiados e cogumelos portobello, Carlyle procurou a salada e o puré de batata que Ash tinha feito com antecedência.
Parecia muito diferente de cozinhar na casa de Ash. Ele abriu para Carlyle o seu próprio espaço, mas não se sentia à vontade para fazer algo como estava, agora na casa “deles”. O ato de pegar a comida que Ash havia preparado na geladeira compartilhada e sentar para comerem juntos parecia, naturalmente, uni-los.
Carlyle, mais uma vez, percebeu que nunca seria capaz de amar ninguém além de Ash. E novamente se deu conta de como era sortudo por ter a pessoa que tanto amava ao lado dele. Todas as pequenas coisas do cotidiano eram como presentes. Ash está ao seu lado agora, não de outra pessoa. Não ser o primeiro de Ash é algo que ele não pode mudar. Mesmo que fosse sempre o segundo, Ash era seu amante agora.
— Você esperou muito tempo? Está pronto.
Ash trouxe um belo risoto que foi servido modestamente. O homem sentou em uma cadeira ao lado dele, apoiou-se no queixo e olhou para Carlyle.
— Existe alguma coisa que você queira me perguntar antes de comer?
— O que?
— Lembra quando eu te disse outro dia que você pode me perguntar qualquer coisa?
Ash baixou a cabeça ligeiramente e piscou os olhos.
— Pode perguntar. Não tenha medo.
Como para acalmar uma criança, a voz carinhosa parecia apontar para sua curiosidade, então ele se sentiu envergonhado, mas ao mesmo tempo estranhamente encorajado. Carlyle abriu a boca após um momento de silêncio.
— Por que Hazel veio te procurar agora?
Ash passou a mão pelo cabelo de Carlyle como se ele tivesse feito a coisa certa. Adorava a sensação da mão tocando seu cabelo enquanto o observava. Um leve arrepio percorreu sua espinha.
— Ele costumava me procurar quando precisava de um lugar para estar. Aconteceu algumas vezes mesmo depois que terminamos. Não voltamos a namorar, mas…… como foi a primeira pessoa com quem estive profundamente envolvido, senti culpa ao tentar simplesmente excluí-lo. Não vejo Hazel desde que conheci Lyle na véspera de Ano Novo.
Se era assim, significa que ele estava tentando voltar para Ash com o intuito de se apoiar nele? Um pensamento ruim encheu a mente de Carlyle por um momento. O sangue se acumulava nas veias azuladas nas costas de sua mão branca. Sentindo um feromônio pesado, Ash bagunçou o cabelo de Carlyle.
— Lyle, deixe-me dizer claramente. Não tenho sentimentos por Hazel. Essa pessoa me deixou e me enganou. Tudo acabou desde então.
Como pode deixar alguém tão lindo e amoroso como Ash para estar com outra pessoa? O comportamento vergonhoso do homem tornou o humor de Carlyle ainda mais inquieto e aguçado. O fato de ele ainda não ter achado suficiente e de ter tentado se apoiar em Ash novamente deixou Carlyle furioso.
— Nunca pensei que alguém pudesse ousar fazer isso com Ash.
Reprimindo sua raiva, Carlyle lutou para controlar suas palavras. Também suprimiu os pensamentos que continuavam vindo à mente. Porque Ash iria querer isso.
— Está tudo bem. É passado. Só estou triste por Lyle ter se magoado por causa de Hazel dessa maneira.
Ash disse como se soubesse de algo que Carlyle ainda não havia perguntado. Foi estranho. Como Ash conseguiu reconhecer tão facilmente seus sentimentos? Nem mesmo sua família sabia o que Carlyle estava pensando. Das muitas pessoas que passaram por sua vida, Ash foi o único que o fez. No caso de Aiden, que era próximo dele, teria compreendido o seu comportamento rapidamente porque já se conheciam a anos, mas Ash não era assim.
Como se fosse o destino.
— Eu, então…
As palavras ficaram presas em sua língua. Carlyle forçou-se a cuspir-las. Seu coração estava pesado diante da sensação de expor suas partes mais íntimas.
— Ouvindo a palavra imprinting, pensei que talvez Ash não me amasse tanto quanto amou a ele. Não sou um ômega, por isso não poderei ser marcado… acabei especulando sobre essa parte. Eu mostrei um lado muito vergonhoso meu. Me desculpe.
De forma incomum, as palavras fluíram e a frase se tornou longa. Era muito estranho abrir seus sentimentos mais íntimos, então Carlyle ficou rígido. Ash, que até então estava com o braço apoiando o queixo, ajustou a sua postura. Ele se inclinou um pouco para trás, puxou a mão de Carlyle para ele, colocando-a em sua coxa.
— Sabe porque eu pensei em sair com um Alfa, depois de conhecer Lyle na noite de ano novo?
— ….. Não sei.
— Eu acredito que estamos destinados.
Seus olhos se arregalaram com a história que não era nenhum centímetro diferente do que ele pensava.
— Se estivéssemos destinados, e se eu começasse a sair com Alfas assim… Achei que um dia nos encontraríamos novamente.
Um fresco sorriso floresceu como uma rosa no rosto de Ash.
— E agora estamos aqui juntos. Simples assim.
Segurando a mão dele com força, Ash sussurrou enquanto levantava seus longos cílios.
— Lyle foi um desses oponentes. É como um milagre termos nos apaixonado um pelo outro. Não é uma relação guiada por feromônios como a de Ômega com um Alfa. Chegamos onde estamos agora sem a influência do instinto.
Os arrepios que estavam debilmente arranhando sua espinha agora preenchiam todo o corpo de Carlyle.
— Ao longo de toda a minha vida, posso dizer com segurança que você é a pessoa que eu mais amei.
A alegria se espalhou como a luz. Seu rosto, endurecido pelas emoções ansiosas que o tinham perseguido o todo dia, derreteu antes que ele se percebesse. Os olhos afiados se curvaram suavemente. Um sorriso branco se formou em seus lábios.
— Por isso o pensamento de Lyle estava errado. Porque eu te amo muito além do que um dia gostei de Hazel.
O fato de que a pessoa por quem ele se apaixonou foi Ash Jones, fez Carlyle se sentir infinitamente aliviado e emocionado.
— A pergunta foi respondida, meu amor?
Ash levantou a mão de Carlyle e beijou suavemente as costas dela. Erguendo a mão pálida e esfregando-a contra sua bochecha, ele esperou pacientemente pela resposta de Carlyle.
— Sim.
Já não havia dúvidas e ansiedade em seus olhos que transbordavam de alegria. Em troca, Carlyle calmamente abriu os lábios e disse ao seu amante o que

— Eu também te amo Ash, mais do que qualquer outra pessoa.
Como se já soubesse, Ash piscou os olhos e sorriu. A luz do sol do final da tarde, que lentamente começava a se pôr, atingiu diagonalmente os assentos em que estavam sentados. Suas sombras, espalhadas sob a mesa, agarravam-se uma à outra como se fossem uma só.
Em um ambiente calmo, eles começaram a comer em silêncio. As mãos que estavam juntas, não se largaram durante o resto da refeição. Até que o sol desapareceu completamente no horizonte.
