Devido à prolongada bebedeira, todos os convidados pernoitaram nos quartos de hóspedes. Era algo que ele tinha em mente desde o início, então Carlyle chamou os empregados de manhã cedo para limpar a mansão e pediu ao chef que preparasse algo para comer no café da manhã. Todos acordaram tarde porque era uma manhã de fim de semana e haviam bebido até tarde na noite anterior.
Carlyle acordou depois de dormir por cerca de quatro horas. Ash, que disse que não queria que Carlyle bebesse, estava jogando Pyramid, um jogo de cartas, onde o perdedor tomava doses de bebida, e bebeu excessivamente devido às penalizações.
E, como resultado, ele ficou bastante embriagado.
Já havia pensado nisso antes, Ash parece ser fraco em todos os jogos que envolviam cartas. Enquanto observava Ash rir amigavelmente para as pessoas meio embriagado, Carlyle decidiu que da próxima vez os dois deveriam jogar uma partida de Pôquer apostando álcool. Ele nunca quis particularmente o ver bêbado, mas mudou de ideia depois da noite de ontem. Ash bêbado era muito fofo para ser expresso em palavras. Seria uma pena vê-lo assim apenas uma vez.
“Onde você está indo?”
O frenz bêbado de Ash começou no momento em que Carlyle se levantou para buscar um copo d’água. Ash, que estava sentado ao lado dele, perdendo o jogo miseravelmente, pediu a Carlyle que lhe desse a mão no momento em que o homem ergueu o corpo. Até então, era o mesmo de sempre. Mas todo o resto veio depois.
“Eu também quero ir”.
Com essas palavras, Ash calmamente seguiu Carlyle. Então, parado em silêncio ao lado de Carlyle, que servia água, Ash o abraçou com força por trás. Como se ele fosse um passarinho.
Sabia que Ash não tinha um tamanho adequado para ser comparado a um passarinho, mas ele seguiu Carlyle como um passarinho seguindo sua mãe. Não havia outra maneira de descrever senão dizer que era fofo. Ele não apenas o seguiu com um grande sorriso no rosto, mas também acatou o que lhe foi dito para fazer, só por precaução.
Quando perguntado se ele poderia beijá-lo na bochecha já que ninguém estava olhando, Ash sorriu lindamente e inclinou a cabeça para beijá-lo. Apontou para lugares diferentes várias vezes dizendo baixinho o que ele deveria fazer, e ele seguiu suas ordens.
Depois de ver isso, a ansiedade que o incomodou o dia todo desapareceu um pouco. Talvez fosse porque ele estava muito bêbado. O estranho desconforto que sentiu no jardim desapareceu como se nunca tivesse existido. Com isso Carlyle ficou aliviado.
Tudo estava como sempre. Carlyle saudou a manhã, repetindo para si mesmo: “Tudo o que resta agora é melhorar”. No entanto, a situação, que continuou desde a noite anterior, não se revelou como Carlyle esperava.
Já era tarde da manhã quando eles começaram a acordar um por um. Vozes ecoavam de andar em andar. Houve muita comoção sobre o banheiro ser tão grande que alguém poderia se perder dentro, e conversas sobre as camas serem enormes e confortáveis. Carlyle, que caminhou pelo corredor até o andar onde se encontravam os quartos de hóspedes para ver se eles precisavam de algo, escutou a voz de Aaron, e parou em frente a seu quarto. Era um nome que o incomodava muito, então Carlyle tentou se afastar de alguma forma para escapar. No entanto, assim que ouviu essas palavras ele não conseguiu se mover. Suas pernas ficaram rígidas. Seu sangue gelou. Através da porta entreaberta viu Aaron de pé, Ron e Yohan sentados na cama.
— Você deu?
— Ele me perguntou com tanta seriedade se algo estava acontecendo, então eu dei. Mas quando conheci Carlyle ontem, eu me senti mal. O que devo fazer?
A menção de seu nome o fez se sentir horrível. Carlyle levantou a mão e apertou as pálpebras.
— Acho que vai ficar tudo bem, já que se trata de Ash. Ash é muito gentil com as pessoas com quem sai. É por isso que todo mundo quer estar perto dele.
Yohan, que estava ouvindo disse. Carlyle também pensava assim. Era Ash, por isso é claro que não se comportaria de forma rude para com eles. Mas as palavras que ele ouviu depois perturbaram seriamente a compostura de Carlyle.
— Mesmo assim, os dois não estavam próximos o suficiente para se marcarem? Isso foi especial, não foi? Então quando Hazel voltou mais tarde da América, pensei que fosse atrás de Ash, você também não?
Ron disse isso, como se discordasse da opinião de Yohan. A flecha da pergunta voltou para Aaron. Carlyle piscou.
Por um momento, ele não entendeu muito bem o que estavam dizendo.
— Isso é verdade? Não temos certeza. Ash não ia nos contar algo tão íntimo assim. Eles dois tiveram um imprinting?
Ele disse… marca?
— Bom. A forma como Ash sofreu depois da separação era como os sintomas secundários do rompimento de uma marca, então eu imaginei. Os dois eram muito….
Ele não conseguiu ouvir até o fim.
Antes que Ron pudesse terminar de falar, Carlyle se virou. Com os olhos atordoados, ele imediatamente voltou para o corredor. Não sabia para onde estava indo. Também sentia náuseas. Carlyle subiu as escadas completamente inseguro de sua condição. Então foi para o seu quarto, não para o quarto deles.

Juntou as duas mãos de forma côncava e levou ao rosto. Os dedos com torcidos arranharam sua pele. Sentiu uma dor lancinante no peito como quando soltou a mão de Ash na noite anterior. Com uma respiração fria quase que congelada, ele abaixou as mãos.
Mas realmente, literalmente não conseguia pensar em nada.
Depois de ficar parado durante alguns minutos, Carlyle lentamente tentou balançar a cabeça em negação. A razão começou a julgar primeiro. Não estava certo se Ash e Hazel tinham marcado um ao outro. Era apenas especulação. Se alguém o tivesse imprimido, Ash teria contado a Carlyle primeiro.
No entanto, uma refutação logo que se seguiu. Porque ele contaria a Carlyle sobre isso? Não. De que adiantaria revelar uma história de amor do passado para Carlyle? Sempre soube que era uma pessoa insuficiente. Mas depois de conhecer Ash, pensou que estava tornando-se uma pessoa mais forte. A insegurança sobre si mesmo que pouco a pouco tinha diminuído, voltou a explodir na noite anterior. O desgosto que tinha começado a fluir através das fissuras finalmente deslizou para dentro e transbordou.
Começando por não confiar em seu amante, estava julgando Ash e ouvindo a conversa de outras pessoas. Se todos que o conhecem soubessem disso, provavelmente apontariam o dedo para Carlyle em repreensão. Dizer que não queria ouvir não era desculpa. Carlyle levantou a cabeça se sentindo como um homem perdido. Ele não sabia a resposta. A vida de Carlyle sempre teve direções e propósitos claros. Mas seu relacionamento com Ash é um caminho que nunca trilhou antes. Em primeiro lugar, era a primeira vez que estava em um relacionamento. Ele não tinha a menor ideia do que fazer nesse tipo de situação.
Além disso, nem mesmo o próprio Carlyle fazia ideia de que ficaria tão abalado com algo que envolvia o ex-amante de Ash. Um homem que foi treinado para manter a compostura ao longo de sua vida desmoronar assim apenas por causa de um relacionamento do passado……

Carlyle balançou a cabeça. A voz de Ash foi ouvida do outro lado da porta. Podia ver a maçaneta girando. Carlyle levantou-se apressadamente e caminhou direto para a porta. Ele correu e agarrou a maçaneta.
A porta foi trancada.
Não era sua intenção. Mas Carlyle trancou a porta por impulso.
— …… Lyle?
A maçaneta girou e travou. A voz chamando seu nome parecia bastante surpresa. Porque Carlyle nunca havia trancado uma porta para Ash.
— Ash.
Ele disse seu nome. A mão que segurava a maçaneta trancada, tremia. Carlyle olhou para ela, e lentamente a virou. Quando destrancou a porta e a abriu, viu Ash parado ali. Um rosto surpreso estava olhando em sua direção.
— Você dormiu bem?
Carlyle perguntou, ajustando sua expressão. Ash olhou para ele e então perguntou com uma cara séria.
— O que está acontecendo?
— Não aconteceu nada.
— Não minta. Você está estranho desde ontem. Por que está escondendo isso?
Ash distorceu os lábios e perguntou a Carlyle. Era a primeira vez que via aquele rosto. Carlyle olhou para ele com as sobrancelhas caídas, então abriu a boca lentamente.
— Eu realmente estou bem.
— Então por que você trancou a porta?
Ash olhou para a maçaneta e perguntou. Seus olhos se encontraram. Quando viu os olhos fixos nele, perdeu a confiança para inventar qualquer coisa. Foi difícil suportar.
— Fico muito chateado quando Lyle esconde alguma coisa. Então, me diga…
Ele estendeu a mão. Apesar da expressão dolorosa no seu rosto, não foi um gesto de raiva. Era o habitual toque amigável.
Mas assim que a mão estava prestes a tocar seu ombro, Carlyle involuntariamente parou a mão de Ash assim como fez quando trancou a porta. O som da pele estalando reverberou pelo ar.
Ash olhou para Carlyle com os olhos arregalados. Carlyle rapidamente pegou a mão e olhou para Ash. O olhar que encontrou era turvo, como se ele estivesse extremamente chocado. Carlyle checou às costas da mão de Ash. O dorso da mão estava avermelhado, como se ele tivesse aplicado muita força para afastá-la.
Um silêncio terrível preencheu o espaço entre eles. Carlyle relembrou vagamente a cena que havia imaginado no momento em que bateu naquela mão. Com aquela mão ele tocou um Ômega chamado Hazel, sussurrando amor e falando sobre casamento. Quando pensou sobre isso, se sentiu muito estranho sobre Ash tocá-lo. E por isso o rejeitou.
No entanto, mais do que qualquer outra coisa, a aparência de quem o fez pensar nesta cena era ainda mais assustadora.
— Desculpe.
Carlyle se desculpou com a voz embargada. Não podia acreditar que ele, não outra pessoa, acabou afastando a mão de Ash. Suas mãos tremiam. A culpa corria desenfreada.
— Lyle.
Sua voz era rígida. Ash soltou um suspiro pesado.
— Por que então… se algo te fez se sentir ofendido, por favor me diga.
Ash cerrou o punho e o abriu. A mão, que estava vagando no ar devido ao baque, estendeu-se novamente para Carlyle. Carlyle lutou para ficar parado. No entanto, no momento em que esta tentou alcançar novamente, ele recuou outra vez.
Ash olhou para ele com um rosto sombrio. Os profundos olhos azuis e cinzas tremiam instáveis. Ash parecia terrivelmente magoado com as sucessivas rejeições.
— Se você me afastar assim sem me dizer o por que, eu posso ficar ofendido também. Então você pode me dizer o porquê disso? Que erro eu cometi?
Mesmo que parecesse um pouco zangado, Ash manteve a calma. Ele não o afastou tão imaturamente quanto Carlyle fez, apenas tentou ouvir seus motivos. Mas não havia espaço na mente de Carlyle para isso. Diante do fato de que a pessoa que ele mais amava no mundo parecia ter tido alguém mais precioso do que ele, Carlyle não conseguia tomar uma decisão racional. Ele constantemente se repreendia, mas seu coração não conseguia acompanhar. A ponto de não acreditar que ele, que sempre foi contido, estava agindo de maneira tão infantil.
— Essa pessoa chamada Hazel……
Carlyle acabou mencionando o nome. Os olhos de Ash se arregalaram com o nome que surgiu.
— Você prometeu a ele um futuro?
Seu coração afundou. Os olhos de Carlyle ardiam. Era tão desagradável trazer o assunto à tona.
— Se teve alguém importante o suficiente para marcá-lo….. acho que teria sido melhor se tivesse mencionado isso para mim.
Era como enfiar um prego em suas costelas. Seus olhos queimavam. A umidade se acumulou nos olhos avermelhados.
— Não sei por que tenho que continuar ouvindo o nome dele nos lábios de outras pessoas.
Deixando escapar um suspiro úmido, Carlyle fez uma pausa. Ash rapidamente se aproximou dele.
— Espera.
Ele balançou sua cabeça. Ash tentou abraçá-lo, então, Carlyle afastou os braços que tentavam envolver seu corpo. Quando o empurrou com força, Ash cambaleou e recuou.
— Sei que você tem muita experiência e teve muitos amantes. Mas Ash, não é bom ouvir todos os seus amigos falarem sobre ele.
Mordendo os lábios a ponto de ficarem brancos, Carlyle derramou seus pensamentos em cima de Ash com voz melancólica.
— Lyle, por favor. Você poderia me ouvir por um segundo? Nós não éramos assim.
Com uma voz dolorida, Ash tentou diminuir a distância com Carlyle. No entanto, se ele enfrentasse Ash assim, sentiu que iria cuspir palavras duras.
— Eu não quero ouvir isso agora.
Continuou balançando a cabeça. Ash olhou para Carlyle com uma expressão triste no rosto. Ele parecia desesperado. Carlyle apontou educadamente para a porta. Ele desviou o olhar.
— Eu agradeceria se você fosse. Podemos…. Conversar mais tarde.
Houve um silêncio. Ash estava olhando para Carlyle como alguém que levantou um tapa na cara. As sobrancelhas curvadas estavam cheias de tristeza e dor. Após alguns minutos de silêncio, Ash levantou a mão e passou no rosto. Então ele falou devagar.
— Está bem.
Viu Ash se virando. Carlyle olhou para ele com o coração partido, então lentamente agarrou a maçaneta. O olhar de Ash pousou em sua mão.
— Eu não vou te incomodar até que Lyle queira conversar.
Sua voz era baixa e fraca como um fogo moribundo. Era tão óbvio que o tinha magoado que Carlyle até sentiu que seria benéfico para ele desaparecer do mundo tal como ele era.
— Sinto muito.
Lábios melancólicos vomitaram um pedido de desculpas. Carlyle, que estava prestes a fechar a porta, olhou para baixo. Viu os pés descalços de Ash, que veio procurá-lo sem colocar os chinelos.
— Lamento ter feito Lyle se sentir assim. Eu estava errado. Você tem razão, eu devia ter dito isso antes. Só não estava com pressa para conversar sobre isso em um momento como este. Então Lyle….
Ash sorriu com uma cara de choro e disse.
— Por favor, não chore sozinho quando eu não estiver por perto.
No momento em que ouviu isso, sentiu vontade de chorar. Tudo estava um desastre. Ele arruinou o dia que deveria ter sido perfeito do começo ao fim. Com uma auto-aversão insuportável, Carlyle fechou a porta. O som da porta se fechando suave e ruidosamente encheu o corredor.
Não havia som de passos voltando. Carlyle silenciosamente colocou a mão na porta e enxugou as lágrimas que estavam se acumulando. Ele não merecia sequer chorar.
