Defina o relacionamento - Capítulo 37
A excitação que vinha crescendo silenciosamente diminuiu em um instante. Não era o momento para se sentir assim. Ele tinha que arrumar suas roupas desgrenhadas e cobrir a marca de alguma forma. Além disso, para cumprir o pedido de Ash, teria que inventar uma maneira para lidar com os convidados sem sorrir.
Com uma cara séria, Carlyle se levantou. Ash olhou para Carlyle com perplexidade diante do súbito rosto rígido.
— Por acaso eu aborreci Lyle?
— Claro que não.
Carlyle respondeu rapidamente. Contudo, era difícil explicar a Ash por que ele estava fazendo isso. Como poderia dizer a ele, que está se sentindo extremamente nervoso por conhecer seus amigos. Carlyle viveu como empresário por mais de uma década, desde de seus vinte e poucos anos. Não é muito agradável para tal pessoa dizer que se sente intimidado por causa de uma reunião como essa.
Carlyle, que esfregou a testa com olhos envergonhados por um momento, disse, evitando seu olhar.
— Seus amigos estarão aqui em breve, então eu vou trocar de roupa e descer.
— Está tudo bem?
Ash gentilmente agarrou o pulso de Carlyle enquanto ele se levantava. Olhando para as belas unhas redondas que segurava seu pulso, Carlyle pensou.
Está tudo bem?
Não há razão para não estar bem. À medida que o momento se aproximava, Carlyle percebeu que estava ficando mais nervoso do que esperava, mas isso não significava que ele não estava bem.

— Lyle.
Ash chamou seu nome. Na voz baixa havia a mesma preocupação desta manhã.
— Se há algo que te preocupa, me diga a qualquer hora, entendeu?
Carlyle se sentiu envergonhado com as palavras calmas que pareciam abranger até mesmo seu lado mais fraco. Apesar de terem apenas um ano de diferença, Ash sempre teve a mente aberta e fácil de lidar. Carlyle olhou para ele em silêncio e sorriu discretamente. Foi um sorriso parecido com o que deu ao seguir Natalie e Ash.
— Eu farei.
Vendo que Carlyle estava de costas quando terminou de falar, Ash franziu a testa levemente e coçou o queixo.

Os amigos de Ash eram de vários gêneros e personalidades. Os dois que conheciam Ash desde a infância eram Alfas, uma mulher de cabelo escarlate chamada Seila e um homem de cabelo castanho chamado Jamie. Suas ocupações eram professor do ensino médio e contador de impostos. Eles também foram os primeiros do grupo a chegar.
Talvez fosse porque eram amigos de Ash, mas Seila e Jamie eram pessoas muito alegres. Além de dizer que ouviram falar muitas vezes sobre Carlyle, eles trouxeram à tona o assunto, dizendo que tinham muitas perguntas porque Ash apenas lhes contou brevemente sobre Carlyle.
Não era apenas curiosidade deles. Os colegas de Ash que chegaram depois não eram diferentes. Este grupo era mais divertido em composição. Os ômegas masculinos Ron e Yohan, a mulher beta Jenna e, finalmente, o alfa masculinon Aaron. Todos eles eram designers gráficos.
Por último, Aiden chegou. Ao contrário das outras pessoas que trouxeram vinhos e molduras sutis, Aiden trouxe algo que se destacou como presente. Ele chamou as pessoas dizendo que havia se preparado rapidamente porque não teve tempo. Um funcionário carregando uma caixa contendo uma máquina de café expresso entrou atrás dele. Apesar da atenção das pessoas voltada para ele, Aiden se contentou em instalar a La Marzocco Linea em sua cozinha.
O surgimento de uma máquina de café expresso profissional que pode ser usada em um café ou empresa causou alvoroço na casa por um tempo. Quando Aiden disse que sentia muito pelo presente ter sido muito barato, Carlyle respondeu dizendo que não se importava. Depois de pesquisar a faixa de preço da máquina, Yohan fez um barulho impressionante.
Devido a isso, é claro, Aiden e Carlyle se destacaram como um prego se projetando na madeira. Além disso, suas ações, gestos e até mesmo a etiqueta ao falar eram diferentes, então não havia como evitar. Pela primeira vez em sua vida, Carlyle ficou um pouco grato por ter Aiden ao seu lado.

Ash não saiu do lado de Carlyle desde que desceram do quarto. Assim que viram suas mãos fortemente unidas, todos uivaram e aplaudiram, então Carlyle fez um esforço desesperado para não mudar sua expressão. Porque foi muito embaraçoso, mas também foi bom.
— Nós nos conhecemos em Nova York na véspera de Ano Novo. Oh, por que você não conta a Lyle?
Ash disse com um ar de alegria. Ao ouvir as palavras “véspera Ano Novo” as pessoas ao seu redor começaram a exclamar. Carlyle, que estava observando o rosto de Ash, que nunca havia testemunhado antes, agarrou sua taça de vinho com força diante das palavras de Ash. Seus olhos ligeiramente arregalados encararam Ash ansiosamente.
— Algo te incomoda?
Todos os olhos estavam em Carlyle. Não era difícil para ele falar na frente dos outros. O problema era que ele não parecia ser capaz de falar adequadamente das partes românticas que Ash queria. Carlyle silenciosamente procurou as informações de que precisava.

Quando a boca de Carlyle se abriu, houve um silêncio. Natalie estava esperando que Carlyle falasse com um olhar de grande expectativa. O rosto de deboche de Aiden também era visível. Suas expressões fizeram Carlyle recuar.
— Acabamos nos beijando enquanto caminhávamos pela Times Square.
Sua voz tão fria quanto sua expressão dizia a verdade. A pronúncia afiada e os olhos sérios adicionados as palavras que saíram da sua boca, tornaram as palavras de Carlyle tão frias quanto nenhuma outra no mundo. Carlyle ficou bastante satisfeito com as palavras longe de serem românticas, que apenas transmitiam as informações necessárias.
Houve um breve silêncio de um tipo diferente do anterior. Carlyle ergueu a taça de vinho na mão e lambeu os lábios sem dizer nada. Natalie ficou um pouco surpresa e Aiden parecia estar digerindo o que Carlyle havia dito enquanto piscava os olhos.
Então uma risada escapou dos lábios de Ash. O homem, que estava sentado ao lado de Carlyle, o puxou para si. Ash soltou um som satisfeito enquanto beijava seu cabelo macio.
— Isso mesmo, foi isso. Ouvir dessa forma faz parecer ainda mais bonito. Obrigado por contar.
As palavras de Ash aliviaram a atmosfera. Seria mais exato dizer, que as coisas se tornaram um pouco mais agitadas.
— Você está se gabando por ser o único aqui que tem um namorado? Isso me deixa com inveja.
Coincidentemente, todos pareciam estar solteiros, então Jenna disse algo assim para aliviar o clima.
— Assim que cheguei, fiquei surpreso ao ver a marca no pescoço do Sr. Carlyle.
Carlyle tossiu ao ouvir a voz alta de Jamie. As pontas de suas orelhas ardiam. Ele tentou esconder, mas não havia nada para cobrir a marca, então Carlyle vestiu a camisa de gola mais alta que tinha. No entanto, não parecia ter surtido efeito. Ash deixou um sorriso escorregar por sua garganta e beijou Carlyle na testa também. Ele podia sentir os feromônios de Ash flutuando agradavelmente.

Depois das palavras de Aaron, Yohan ia falar mas Natalie interrompeu a conversa.
— Não é melhor continuar as perguntas sobre o casal enquanto temos uma refeição adequada? Que tal todos irmos para a mesa?
— Sou totalmente a favor. Faz muito tempo desde que experimentei a comida de Natalie, então já estou animado. Mas a casa é tão grande que não podemos ir para a cozinha sozinhos Sr. Carlyle, sua casa é como um palácio real!
— Não se preocupe, Carlyle irá orientá-los sobre isso, certo?
Natalie habilmente contornou a situação e sorriu para Carlyle. Carlyle, que estava olhando para Aaron inexpressivamente, voltou a olhar para Ash. Ash olhou para Aaron com um rosto ligeiramente irritado. Então, suavizou a expressão e disse.
— Você se importaria de levá-los na frente, Lyle? Eu irei em breve.

Com uma voz calma, ele respondeu. Ash deu um beijo em sua bochecha como se o elogiasse. O toque gentil era algo que sempre deixava Carlyle emocionado, mas agora algo estava diferente. Seu coração estava pesado.

Sua posição, na qual nunca havia pensado, começou a ser lembrada inesperadamente por aqueles que conheciam o passado de Ash. Carlyle, incapaz de examinar adequadamente como se sentia naquele momento, se levantou de seu assento e seguiu os outros.
Mesmo depois que levou os convidados para o salão onde a refeição aconteceria, Ash não apareceu. Natalie não se incomodou em chamar Ash, como se estivesse evitando isso de propósito, e começou a servir a comida generosamente preparada. Os preparos de Natalie foram colocados em grandes recipientes para que todos se servissem. Vendo as pessoas ajudando-a, Carlyle pediu licença e saiu por um tempo.
Ash estava conversando com Aaron no mesmo local de antes. Ele tentou entrar, mas parou lentamente quando viu o olhar bastante sério no rosto de Ash. Os sapatos pretos tocaram pesadamente no chão.
Parado silenciosamente na sombra do corredor, Carlyle ouviu a conversa. Mesmo sabendo que era muito rude ouvir a conversa de outra pessoa, de alguma forma ele não conseguiu se conter. Seu coração estava pesando com a sensação de ser uma pessoa rude, mas ele não pode pensar em voltar.
— Então, não traga a história de Hazel átona novamente. Por favor.
— Oh, desculpe. Não foi de propósito.
Aaron estava se desculpando com um olhar de arrependimento. Ash ficou em silêncio por um momento. Carlyle o observou escovar o cabelo. Era um hábito que surgia quando ele estava com problemas, com isso Carlyle se surpreendeu ao ver Ash assim pela primeira vez em algum tempo.
— Pensei que isso poderia acontecer. É que… não quero que Carlyle se preocupe com isso. Então, por favor. Ele pode ficar chateado ao ouvir a história de Hazel.
Isso mesmo. Quando Carlyle conheceu Ash ele percebeu que era mais ganancioso e possessivo do que pensava. Por causa disso preferiu não perguntar nada sobre os relacionamentos passados de Ash. Mesmo antes de se tornarem namorados, Carlyle sentia ciúmes daqueles que tiveram a sorte de estar ao lado de Ash. Também não poderia perguntar sobre isso agora que eles estavam namorando.
— Então, ele não sabe sobre Hazel?
Aaron perguntou. Ash ficou em silêncio por alguns segundos antes de abrir a boca.
— Eu nunca mencionei. Mas não acabou bem com Hazel, então eu não queria tocar no assunto. Poderia dizer aos outros?
— Ah, me desculpe. Eu não pensei sobre isso. Não sabia que vocês tinham acabado mal sabia. Vocês dois se davam tão bem, mas Hazel de repente partiu para estudar no exterior. Ash também nunca se exibiu ou falou de nada assim desde que começaram a namorar, apenas Carlyle era importante. Talvez por esse motivo, ele implicitamente pensou que poderia suportar mesmo que viessem à tona vestígios do passado. Porque acreditava que Ash o amava muito.
Mas… e se eu não for a pessoa mais especial para Ash?
Uma sensação de insegurança da qual ele tinha se esquecido durante algum tempo o abalou. Mesmo antes de começar a namorar com Ash, Carlyle assumiu que o homem não tinha nenhum motivo para gostar de alguém como ele. Ao contrário de Ash, que era a única existência na vida de Carlyle, por vezes ele se considerava um objetivo passageiro na vida de Ash. O fato de ele ter tido muitos amantes só afirmava ainda mais isso, pois Ash não parecia ser alguém como Carlyle que mal conseguia abrir seu coração para uma pessoa.
Enquanto pensava sobre isso, as coisas que estavam tentando enterrar em seu coração vieram à tona.
— Não foi desse jeito.
Ash respondeu franzindo a testa. Aaron deu de ombros.
— Então me diga o motivo depois. Todos pensávamos que se casariam logo que um de vocês se graduasse, mas um dia de repente você disse que tinham terminado, então sempre estive curioso.
— Se você não se importa, pode parar de falar sobre Hazel?
Um sorriso cansado apareceu no rosto de Ash. Aaron assentiu diante do pedido educado. Então um sorriso tardio se formou no rosto de Aaron.
— Sim, vamos fazer isso.
Como a conversa parecia estar chegando ao fim, Carlyle virou as costas e deu um passo à frente. As pontas dos dedos trêmulos se chocaram contra sua coxa e depois se afastaram. Carlyle olhou para Aiden e olhou para o prato redondo branco brilhante. Ele podia ver seu rosto distorcido na superfície de um garfo pontiagudo que ficava ao lado do prato. Era uma figura feia, seu rosto estava completamente distorcido.
Estava prestes a se casar?
Era evidente que se a mente pudesse ser figurativa, a mente de Carlyle agora pareceria um pedaço de papel amassado. Seu coração bateu forte e o seu estômago ficou agitado. Ele pegou o garfo em silêncio. Era frustrante.
Se Hazel era importante para Ash ou não, não tinha nada a ver com Carlyle. Agora Ash está com ele. Nem todo mundo ama uma única pessoa ao longo de sua vida. Pessoas assim são raras. Carlyle também sabe disso. Aiden sempre teve muitos amantes, e ele próprio também não acreditava no conceito de amor até conhecer Ash.
Para a maioria era patético se apegar ao passado e se comparar a outra pessoa. Não. Mas Carlyle sempre pensou assim. Mas tudo desmoronou quando ele se envolveu com Ash.
Para ser sincero, Carlyle achava que nos últimos dias o relacionamento deles tinha atingido o ápice. Esperava secretamente que vivendo juntos dessa maneira, eles pudessem se transformar formalmente em companheiros num futuro não muito distante.
A ideia de que o casamento era apenas uma ferramenta de troca tornou-se um passado muito distante. Ele queria estar totalmente vinculado a Ash. Queria que fossem parceiros que pudessem compartilhar sexo e se envolverem legitimamente nos negócios um do outro. Ele desejava que as instituições e a sociedade os definisse como um casal. Queria dizer, naturalmente e com confiança, que Ash era seu parceiro legítimo. Assim teria certeza que o homem sempre estaria ao seu lado. Sabia que Ash era uma pessoa maravilhosa e que não pensaria sequer em abandoná-lo, uma vez casados.
No entanto, Ash nunca mencionou nem uma única vez o tema casamento. Apesar de terem falado em comprar uma casa e viver juntos, nunca se aprofundaram nesse tema. Claro, penso que levaria tempo, então decidiu ser paciente o máximo possível.
Porém se houve alguém com quem ele pensou em se casar antes de Carlyle, toda a premissa seria invertida. Isso poderia significar que os sentimentos de Ash por Carlyle eram menos desesperados do que eram por seu ex-parceiro?
A ideia infantil parou aí. Enquanto estava perdido em pensamentos, uma mão pousou em seu ombro. O cheiro quente de Ash o atingiu por trás. Carlyle virou a cabeça.
— Você esperou muito tempo? Desculpe.
Olhos desenhando curvas amigáveis estavam olhando para ele. Como sempre, era uma bela vista. A visão do homem olhando apenas para ele o deixou sem fôlego. Uma voz rouca ecoou atrás dele.
Ele voltou à razão lentamente. Era um momento que deveria ser aproveitado. As pessoas haviam ido ali pessoalmente para comemorar o dia em que oficialmente começaram a morar juntos. Carlyle sentiu-se no dever de aproveitar esse momento e entreter seus convidados.
Portanto precisava apagar todos os pensamentos e emoções desnecessárias.
Como era uma data especial, como sempre, Carlyle colocou o dever acima de seus sentimentos. Em todo caso tinha que fazer desse dia o mais agradável para todos.
— Não, você chegou bem na hora.
Carlyle fez contato visual com Ash. Ele sussurrou para o homem dizendo que estava tudo bem. Ash olhou gentilmente para Carlyle como se quisesse descobrir alguma coisa. O olhar direto parecia penetrar em sua mente, então Carlyle naturalmente desviou os olhos.
— O personagem principal desta reunião está aqui, por favor, aproveitem a comida.
Carlyle quebrou sua promessa a Ash. Ele queria seguir as instruções sobre “não sorrir”, mas se não acrescenta-se nada ao seu rosto, era como estar totalmente exposto sem poder sequer fingir. Colocou um sorriso e fez um discurso como se estivesse à frente de pessoas num cenário formal. Os lábios se curvaram. Um sorriso frio se formou ao longo de sua boca. O primeiro sorriso que apareceu no rosto frio mudou a expressão do grupo sentado ao redor da mesa oval, eles pareciam surpresos. Carlyle ergueu uma taça de vinho tinto. Então olhou para Natalie e abriu a boca.
— Obrigado Natalie, por seu trabalho duro.
Seguindo Carlyle, todos ergueram seus copos. Graças a Natalie o ambiente parecia estar muito mais descontraído do que antes.
Carlyle fingiu não notar o olhar de Ash direcionado a ele, e a noite prosseguiu.
Depois de mencionar Hazel, a atmosfera um tanto estranha começou a se suavizar com o álcool. O barman e garçom que Carlyle havia contratado com antecedência preparou as bebidas no salão de coquetéis. A princípio todos hesitaram, provavelmente porque era estranho contratar pessoas para uma festa com poucos participantes, mas logo depois que o álcool começou a fazer efeito o clima mudou. Natalie começou a beber como se esperasse por esse dia a anos. Ela bebeu vodka com cerveja e continuou encorajando Carlyle a beber.
Tal como em uma reunião, Carlyle conduziu as pessoas presentes e, ao contrário do que aconteceu no início, todos começaram a falar mais facilmente. Tendo ouvido quem eram Aiden e Carlyle, eles começaram a fazer várias perguntas sobre a sociedade aristocrática.
— Eu me sinto como um macaco no zoológico.
Disse Aiden, que estava sentado ao lado de Carlyle, girando sua taça de vinho. Seu cabelo loiro, bem cuidado, estava ligeiramente bagunçado. Eles estavam no jardim. O relógio já marcava dez horas da noite, mas o som que vinha de dentro aumentava sem dar sinais de diminuir. Tal como a maioria dos britânicos comuns, quanto mais bebiam mais pareciam querer continuar.
— Isso não soa muito bem.
Carlyle que havia fugido das vistas do público, voltou com uma expressão vazia. Ele refutou as palavras de Aiden e olhou para dentro da mansão. Viu Ash sorrindo através da enorme janela de vidro. Desde que conheceu Carlyle, ele sempre esteve ao seu lado, exceto quando estava trabalhando, então fazia muito tempo que o homem não saia para festejar com os amigos.
Vendo isso um pensamento lhe ocorreu.
Carlyle Frost é um bom amante para Ash Jones? Perguntas como, se ele fazia bem a pessoa que amava, ou não, gritavam em sua cabeça. E acima de tudo, queria saber se essa pessoa chamada Hazel foi um boa amante para Ash. Talvez, poderia ter sido melhor que Carlyle. Foi por isso que Ash cogitou se casar com essa pessoa?
Carlyle olhou para baixo devido aos pensamentos negativos que o inundaram sem chance de suprimir. As sombras eram negras.
— É verdade. É por isso que tenho preguiça de conhecer pessoas comuns. Eu entendo o quão interessante é, mas se você se comportar um pouco mais confortavelmente, eles vão te perguntar todo tipo de coisa.
Aiden pareceu se ofender com a comparação com o aristocrata no drama ‘o final dos impostos’ que Jamie havia feito. Carlyle inclinou a boca e sorriu secamente.
— Você pareceu se encaixar bem.
— Bem, todos parecem ótimos. É Jenna? Aquele pão de gengibre, linda.
— É melhor usar seus truques em outro lugar.
— Eu não tenho nenhuma intenção de tocá-los, de qualquer maneira.
Aiden puxou um charuto. Depois de cortar o tampo com o cortador que carregava, acendeu o charuto. Houve um silêncio momentâneo. O chilrear dos gafanhotos ressoou baixinho. O cheiro de grama fresca na ponta de seu nariz penetrou em seu coração. Foi um dia agradável, mas ele nao conseguiu aproveitar muito.
— Você está bem?
Aiden perguntou. Carlyle desviou o olhar.
— Isso não é por causa de Hazel ou algo assim?
É tão óbvio? Carlyle consternado perguntou a Aiden, com uma sobrancelha levantada.
— Porque você acha isso?
— Você fica mais agitado quando tem algo em mente. Já faz mais de uma década desde que te vejo assim. Mas, Ash Jones essa pessoa não parece saber disso.
Ele sabia que Ash era uma pessoa, mas não gostou da maneira como o homem se referiu a Ash. Carlyle corrigiu as palavras de Aiden.
— Eu não disse para você chamá-lo apenas de Ash?
— Não me sinto cômodo.
Embora a distância parecesse ter diminuído um pouco desde a primeira vez que se encontram, nem Aiden nem Ash pareciam gostar muito um do outro. Ele desistiu de tentar persuadir Aiden e estendeu a mão. Aiden não disse mais nada e ofereceu-lhe o charuto que estava fumando. Carlyle olhou para Aiden em silêncio.
— Você não tem outro?
Carlyle se resignou, ou vê-lo estender a mão como se não houvesse outro charuto. Ele não estava com disposição para desperdiçar sua energia com coisas tão triviais. Aceitou o charuto. Mas não conseguiu fumar.
— O que você está fazendo aqui, Lyle?
Ouviu uma voz amigável chamando seu nome. Uma longa sombra se estendeu sobre a grama iluminada pela lua. Aiden franziu a testa. Carlyle levantou-se rapidamente. Além da agitação interna, seu coração derreteu quando Ash saiu procurando por ele.
— Ash.
— Oi.
Ash, que caminho imediatamente, olhou para Carlyle e sorriu. Seu olhar caiu sobre o charuto na mão de Carlyle.
— Você fuma charutos?
Só aí Carlyle percebeu que nunca havia fumado um charuto na frente de Ash.
— Parece que você não sabia?
Aiden interveio na hora certa. Ash olhou para Aiden com um rosto sorridente.
— Ele nunca fumou na minha frente.
— Acho que vocês ainda não estão tão próximos.
— Bom, eu não acho que haja qualquer razão para ouvir isso de Aiden. Lyle e eu somos amantes.
Ash ainda estava sorrindo, mas o feromônio era diferente. Aiden também elevou o seu ânimo de acordo com os feromônios que pareciam estar descontentes. Carlyle calmamente chamou o nome de Aiden.
— Aiden.
— Está bem, eu entendi.

Enfatizando a palavra ‘eu’, Aiden olhou para Ash mais uma vez.
— Obrigado por me convidar. Sua irmã cozinha muito bem.
Os elogios de Aiden sobre a comida de Natalie soaram sinceros, mas o comentário anterior não foi muito educado.
— Estou feliz por saber que você gostou. Agora vá para casa e descanse.
Ash também não se preocupou em esconder seus verdadeiros sentimentos. Aiden deu de ombros para as palavras que soaram como: desapareça rapidamente. Depois que Aiden, que causou uma pequena comoção, saiu, Ash soltou um breve suspiro. Então ele puxou Carlyle pela cintura. Seu corpo estava preso.

A voz estava um pouco diferente do normal. Em um tom envolvente, Ash disse que queria que ele jogasse o charuto fora. Como os charutos que ele e Aiden fumavam eram importados diretamente para eles, as palavras de Ash não faziam muito sentido. Mas esse fato não se importava. Ash, que parecia estar choramingando, era realmente tão fofo a ponto de fazer seu coração apertar. O coração que até então estava triste voltou a acelerar.
— …. isso te incomoda?
— Claro.
Ash ergueu uma sobrancelha tristemente, ele abaixou a cabeça e esfregou seu nariz. O dedo acariciou suavemente a bochecha pálida e tocou seus lábios. As pontas dos dedos traçaram os lábios finos e vermelhos com um pouco de força. Um ruído de cócegas surgiu lentamente.
— Lyle é…
O dedo que traçou a superfície de seus lábios ganhou força. O dedo macio foi pressionando contra seus lábios. Com um gemido, Carlyle abriu a boca.
— Não coloque nada na boca o quê foi tocado por outra pessoa além de mim.
Ele pressionou o dedo contra os lábios de Carlyle e cavou mais fundo. Devido a pressão em sua boca a saliva se reuniu na ponta de sua língua. Ahhh. Exalou, uma respiração quente. Carlyle olhou para Ash com uma expressão lacrimosa no rosto enquanto o seu coração, que tinha estado estranhamente solitário e ansioso durante a festa, batia descontroladamente. A expressão triste desapareceu gradualmente do rosto de Ash. Em vez disso, o desejo preencheu o seu lugar.
O dedo que estava esfregando sua língua deslizou para fora. O calor de Ash rapidamente preencheu o espaço vazio. Uma língua macia deslizou para dentro. O beijo continuou enquanto sua cintura era agarrada com força. Carlyle rapidamente puxou as costas de Ash para um abraço.
Algo queimou como fogo. A fraca intoxicação correndo em suas veias aumentou sua extensão. Sua cabeça estava uma bagunça enquanto as línguas se contorciam. O som das salivas misturando-se pegajosa mantendo era gritante. A parte inferior de seu corpo foi esfregada. Estava a ponto de atingir o limite. Seu queixo foi liberado e o hálito quente esvaiu-se. Seus globos oculares ardiam e sua mente estava vazia.
O beijo, que parecia tirar todo o fôlego de Carlyle, terminou. Os lábios se abriram e a saliva se esticou como um fio. Carlyle apertou as roupas de Ash com as mãos e olhou fixamente para seu rosto.
— Se há algo que você queira me perguntar ou me dizer alguma coisa, está tudo bem.
Os olhos que olhavam para ele eram amáveis. Assim que ouviu as palavras tranquilizadoras, sentiu como se algo fosse explodir. Muitas dúvidas surgiram. Ele não conseguiu pensar em nada por um momento, mas logo um monte de perguntas ecoaram de uma vez.

Seus lábios se contraíram. Mas ele não ousou falar. Estas eram palavras que ele nunca seria capaz de pronunciar enquanto estivesse são. Também seriam perguntas imaturas, seria como interrogar Ash. Não poderia fazer uma pergunta rude a Ash.
— Obrigado por sua preocupação. Mas eu realmente não tenho nada a perguntar. Natalie está bem? Ela parece estar bebendo muito.
Carlyle sorriu e mudou de assunto. Ele soltou a mão que segurava as roupas de Ash. O rosto de Ash endureceu ligeiramente. Os cílios longos caíram silenciosamente.
— Hoje…
Ash balançou a cabeça em vez de continuar. Ash olhou para Carlyle por alguns segundos e então sorriu como se não fosse nada.
— Está bem. Eu entendo.
Mesmo que estivessem sorrindo um para o outro, havia uma estranha sensação de incongruência. Algo estranho preencheu o espaço entre eles tão rapidamente que foi difícil acreditar que os dois tinham se beijado apenas alguns segundos antes. Foi a primeira vez que isso aconteceu. Ele estava com medo. Carlyle inclinou o rosto e olhou para Ash. No entanto, não havia nada a se dizer naquela situação. Era como se tivesse aparecido uma fenda invisível entre eles.
— Vamos entrar então? Eles estão procurando por Lyle. Todos gostaram de Lyle.
— Fico feliz por ouvir isso.
Palavras doces, mas formais se seguiram. Carlyle olhou para as costas de Ash enquanto eles entravam na casa, de mãos dadas. Embora estivessem juntos, não sentia como se estivessem juntos.
Carlyle silenciosamente levantou a mão e tocou seu rosto. Verificou se os cantos de sua boca estavam levantados. Depois de confirmar o formato dos lábios tocados pelas pontas de seus dedos, ele sussurrou para si mesmo como se estivesse fazendo uma lavagem cerebral.
Amanhã estarei bem.
Ele pensou assim.
