[Você almoçou?]
No carro em direção a Bath, onde seu avô, o Marquês Arthur Frost, residia, Carlyle recebeu uma mensagem de texto. Ele, que estava um pouco estressado, parou de mexer seu laptop quando a notificação apareceu em seu celular. Era Ash.
Desde o fim de semana passado, Carlyle tem seguido o conselho de Ash e tem lhe enviado mensagens de texto todos os dias após chegar em casa. Como se já estivesse esperando, Ash retornou a resposta não muito tempo depois.
Havia duas mensagens de boa noite que foram trocadas entre eles.

A mão que digitou o nome ‘Sr. Jones’ hesitou por um longo tempo antes de enviar uma mensagem de texto. Era uma segunda-feira e Ash respondeu rapidamente.
[Você disse Sr. Jones de novo? Na casa de Natalie eu disse para me chamar de Ash.]
Ele não parecia estar reclamando, mas usou algumas palavras que deram a mensagem um leve tom de resmungo. Até fez com que parecesse fofo porque junto com a mensagem enviou uma carinha sorridente a qual já tinha visto antes. Carlyle ficou surpreso.
Não lembrava bem de quando o chamou pelo primeiro nome, porque foi feito de forma inconsciente, mas naquele dia provavelmente fez isso porque Natalie achava que os dois estavam namorando, então se dirigiu a ele dessa forma para que a atmosfera não se tornasse estranha.
No entanto, após esse dia, ficou um pouco constrangido de chamar Ash pelo primeiro nome. Não é que não quisesse chamá-lo assim, mas isso parecia ser muito íntimo. Então, agora ele estava preocupado que com isso, a esperança em seu coração crescesse ainda mais.
Enquanto ponderava, Ash respondeu novamente. Demorou cerca de cinco minutos. Desta vez, a mensagem veio com uma foto.

Na foto havia um sashimi e sushi de salmão em um recipiente de plástico embrulhado. As mãos elegantes de Ash também foram fotografadas. A imagem onde a comida se mostrava organizada e bonita parecia se assemelhar à personalidade de Ash.
O fato de terem comido um menu semelhante no mesmo dia não significa nada, mas, fez com que Carlyle se sentisse ainda melhor sem motivo aparente.
A comida de Ash também procedia de um restaurante da rede japonesa em Covent Garden. Ao contrário do que aconteceu no passado, quando o crescimento da marca era acentuado, recentemente passou por uma fase um tanto estagnada, e Carlyle também observou as tendências de mercado. Em Londres, a indústria de Catering se tornou um setor muito grande, porque investimentos em grande escala foram feitos de várias formas.

Agora, as mensagens iam e vinham em um curto período de tempo. Carlyle estava se concentrando plenamente nele sem perceber, quando se deu conta piscou fortemente os olhos, surpreso. Se sentiu culpado por estar perdendo tempo assim. Ele nunca havia trocado tantas mensagens de texto dessa forma, com um conteúdo tão trivial de seu cotidiano.
Ainda assim, Ash mandou mais uma mensagem, então ele não podia simplesmente terminar a conversa sem responder. Carlyle lutou para suprimir seu desejo de dizer algo e, em seguida, enviou uma mensagem de texto para finalizar. Seus dedos estavam dormentes, então digitação ficou mais lenta.

A resposta não veio tão rápido quanto a primeira, demorou mais de dez minutos. Carlyle desligou o telefone e tentou revisar os dados em seu laptop, mas não conseguiu se concentrar.
A concentração não é apenas um produto inato, mas também resultado de um longo treinamento. A concentração que ele vinha aprimorando por tanto tempo desmoronou com uma única mensagem de Ash.

Portanto, era esperado de Carlyle ficar grato pela boa vontade de seu avô e era mais do que certo de que ele expressasse sua gratidão sendo educado.
— Você vai completar trinta e três anos este ano, então acho que é a hora certa para isso. Agradeça por ter uma família que mostra tanto interesse por você.
Mas nada saiu da boca de Carlyle. Foi difícil encontrar uma resposta. Seu aniversário ainda não havia passado, e apenas o pensamento inútil de ter trinta e dois anos ainda persistia em sua mente.

O que Carlyle quer é um Alfa, não um Ômega. Seu avô não jamais iria entender.
Além do mais, isso é apenas um sentimento unilateral de Carlyle. Seu relacionamento com Ash começou a pedido dele, Ash sempre descreveu o relacionamento dos dois como simples parceiros sexuais. Não era algo de que ele pudesse falar sem cometer um erro, apenas pelo fato da pessoa com quem nem está namorando e por quem se apaixonou, não sair de seus pensamentos.
Quando pensou sobre isso, seu coração partiu. Se sentiu deprimido e logo depois sentiu náuseas. Lembrou da infância, quando costumava sofrer com a ideia de que a sua existência não iria ajudar em nada dentro de casa. A tristeza que sentiu naquele momento veio e se apoderou dele.
Ele sempre soube que se casaria dessa forma, que foi criado para isso e que não tinha um relacionamento especial com Ash, mas seu coração era totalmente incapaz de aceitar isso de maneira adequada.
‘É uma vergonha.’ Carlyle olhou em silêncio para a xícara de chá enquanto seu avô e Kyle conversavam. Olhou para o rosto refletido no líquido vermelho com um fundo transparente. Quando olhou para seu reflexo, via a mesma impressão fria que sempre enfrentou ao olhar para o espelho.
Embora já tenha ouvido falar muito sobre sua aparência impecável, Carlyle não entendia muito bem o valor que seu rosto tinha. Havia apenas pessoas bonitas ao seu redor, então talvez fosse natural. Por outro lado, as pessoas também diziam que era difícil abordá-lo porque seu rosto permanecia inexpressivo. Mesmo com a boa aparência, seria uma sorte se houvesse pessoas que se interessassem por ele.
Enquanto se culpava por suas debilidades e tentava entender direito o que estava passando por sua cabeça, seu avô lhes felicitou e disse adeus. Arthur sempre foi um homem com uma agenda apertada e a seguia rigidamente mesmo na velhice. O encontro de hoje com eles também era apenas um dos muitos compromissos de Arthur.
Em silêncio, Carlyle acompanhou Kyle para fora do escritório de Arthur. Da escada central da mansão, o barulho de funcionários atarefados e convidados podiam ser ouvidos. O Marquês sempre tinha muitos convidados. Talvez esta noite, como sempre, haja um jantar semelhante a um banquete.
E Carlyle tinha certeza de que os ‘candidatos’ a que Arthur se referia estariam presentes nessa reunião. Arthur é um homem meticuloso. Carlyle o conhecia há muito tempo, então agora sabia exatamente o que seu avô estava planejando.
— Carlyle.
Não tinha feito nada, e mesmo assim estava muito cansado. Mas Carlyle tinha trabalho a fazer. Quando estava prestes a subir o corredor para o quarto andar, onde ficava o quarto que foi designado para ele e Kyle, Kyle parou e o chamou. Carlyle que estava subindo as escadas se virou.
— Posso falar com você um segundo?
Ele estava cansado, mas achou que seria melhor parar um pouco e conversar com Kyle.
— Certo, vamos conversar um pouco.
Ele respondeu calmamente. Kyle baixou seus cílios longos e finos. Por causa de seu rosto pensativo, Carlyle desceu as escadas e parou na frente dele.
— Por que você está com essa expressão?
— Carlyle, eu… — Kyle, que estava franzindo os lábios como se tentasse organizar seus pensamentos por um momento, continuou. — Eu acho que você não precisa se casar se não quiser.
Carlyle piscou diante das palavras inesperadas.
— Kyle.
— É a primeira vez que vejo meu irmão sorrir assim por causa de outra pessoa.
Kyle disse. Semelhante aos olhos azuis de Arthur, mas muito mais quentes e brilhantes, seus olhos azuis olharam afetuosamente para Carlyle.
— Eu?
— Sim, no carro mais cedo.
‘Eu sorri.’ Quando Kyle disse isso, Carlyle ergueu a mão e esfregou a testa. ‘Eu não posso ter feito isso.’
— Se não tem ninguém particularmente importante para você, e quer se casar mesmo assim, não vou te impedir… Mas acho que esse não é o caso agora.
Uma voz angustiada continuou a falar. Ele ficou com vergonha de mostrar sua fragilidade na frente do irmão mais novo, mas ao mesmo tempo, as palavras de Kyle abalaram um pouco seu coração. No entanto, Carlyle conseguiu se recompor novamente.

Ele sempre soube que Kyle estava apaixonado por Nicholas desde a infância, foram mais de dez anos. Então, é claro, queria que Kyle tivesse o que desejasse, mas jamais compreendeu a sensação de gostar de alguém.
Contudo… Agora ele parecia saber um pouco. Aquela sensação de se iluminar apenas por pronunciar o nome de quem se ama.
— É verdade que Nick se tornou inesperadamente um Ômega, mas está tudo bem porque assim eu e Nick podemos dar continuidade a linhagem da família. Meu irmão mais velho sempre se sacrificou porque não fui capaz de fazer minha parte corretamente.
Os olhos azuis de Kyle estavam ligeiramente úmidos. Kyle sempre foi muito amável com seus entes queridos, embora Carlyle não demonstrava emoções por outras pessoas, seu irmão mais novo era uma criança muito gentil com todos.
Não é de se admirar que Carlyle sempre quis protegê-lo. Envergonhado, Carlyle estendeu a mão e tocou nos olhos de Kyle. Kyle recebeu o toque gentil.
— Então… Vou tentar convencer o vovô.
Kyle calmamente terminou de falar. Carlyle não poderia responder isso prontamente. Seria uma tarefa difícil e, ao mesmo tempo, ele não conseguia se livrar da sensação de estar colocando um um grande fardo sobre os ombros de seu irmãozinho. Seu coração ficou pesado quando cogitou abandonar o que pensava ser sua missão ao longo de toda a vida. Mas em meio a essa profunda preocupação, uma pequena esperança emergiu.
E se as coisa que ele vem mal-interpretando não forem apenas ilusões? E se Ash gostar um pouco dele e estiver disposto a continuar com o relacionamento? E se houver a possibilidade dos dois darem certo assim?
Então talvez seja hora de considerar as palavras de Kyle.
— Vou pensar um pouco por enquanto.
No final, Carlyle não conseguiu dizer não. Kyle sorriu com os olhos curvados diante da resposta positiva. Sempre foi um sorriso muito bonito independentemente de quanto o visse.
— Sim, Carlyle.
— É melhor você subir e descansar um pouco, Kyle.
— Certo. Vejo você no jantar.
Depois de observar Kyle entrar no quarto, Carlyle se virou para olhar para a ampla janela do outro lado da escada. Ele viu um jardim verde sendo iluminado pelo sol forte amarelo brilhante.
