Capítulo
O dia foi ficando cada vez mais quente. O calor seco da luz do sol tingia toda a Londres de laranja ao anoitecer, e a brisa fresca ocasional dava vida aos becos estreitos do Soho. Na verdade, todas as cidades do Reino Unido no verão são semelhantes onde quer que vá.
Ele sabia que não ser facilmente arrastado pela atmosfera é uma habilidade básica de uma pessoa bem educada, mas quando essa estação do ano chega, é inevitável que a mente relaxe naturalmente.
Carlyle achava que seus pensamentos estavam em desordem devido a temporada quente em que se encontrava. Caso contrário, não poderia explicar por que queria ver Ash dia após dia.
As pessoas que perambulavam pelas ruas pareciam felizes, independentemente de serem turistas ou habitantes locais. Amantes de mãos dadas eram vistos em todos os lugares. Vendo demonstrações de carinho tão contagiosas, Carlyle se lembrou do momento em que segurou a mão de Ash.
Uma vez que a maioria das memórias relacionadas ao prazer da vida de Carlyle eram derivadas de Ash, ele naturalmente não tinha escolha a não ser pensar nele. Mas isso também estava ocorrendo em outros campos da vida diária de Carlyle.
Mesmo que ele o tivesse visitado apenas duas vezes, sempre que caminhava pela mansão, as lembranças de seus momentos com Ash gradualmente voltavam. A cada passo que dava, uma sensação ardente que subia por seus tornozelos inundava Carlyle. Mesmo sem nunca ter feito nada na cozinha, ficava olhando para ela sempre que passava por perto. O gosto azedo da torta de limão e merengue flutuou na ponta de sua língua.
E quando lembrou desse gosto, sentiu uma vontade súbita de beijá-lo.
Toda vez que se encontravam, Ash colocava a mão na cintura dele e o abraçava, então a temperatura e a sensação da palma em sua cintura vinham naturalmente à mente. Carlyle sentia falta de Ash dessa forma. Ele também não estava familiarizado com o forte impulso emocional e não fazia ideia de como acalmá-lo.
Ao fazer uma lista para participar de eventos e festas que seriam realizados em toda a Europa no verão, enquanto definia um cronograma de desenvolvimento para o primeiro semestre do próximo ano e digeria a agitada rotina diária que a secretária havia montado, os impulsos transbordaram por dentro dele como estivessem prestes a explodir a qualquer momento.
Ele queria entrar em contato com Ash, então continuou olhando para a tela do celular enquanto o ligava e desligava várias e várias vezes. Sempre que se distraía, o sorriso de Ash vinha à mente. Se ele tinha sequer pensado em Carlyle, por que ele lhe disse que não sabia de mais nada, então Carlyle não tinha certeza se deveria ou não, entrar em contato com ele primeiro, coisas assim enchiam sua mente.
Carlyle perseverou, já que nunca havia entrado em contato com ninguém para fins pessoais, e eles não estavam realmente nesse tipo de relacionamento. Mesmo que sempre estivesse ocupado, os dias se passavam mais devagar e demorava muito para o fim de semana chegar.
Então, quando o fim de semana finalmente chegou, para sua vergonha, Carlyle não conseguiu conter seu coração emocionado. Ele acordou um pouco mais cedo do que de costume.
Se despertou antes das cinco da manhã, terminou seu treino matinal e tomou um café da manhã leve. Mayam, que chegou às seis horas, disse que era fim de semana e perguntou se ele não dormiria um pouco mais, mas por estar ansioso ele não conseguia dormir.
Deveria encontrar Ash às duas da tarde.
Ash foi o primeiro a entrar em contato. Três dias atrás, ele recebeu uma mensagem de texto perguntando se ele poderia ir ao escritório na Covent Garden porque Ash tinha um projeto para concluir esta semana.
De todas as vezes, Carlyle só respondeu duas horas depois de ler a mensagem de Ash. Depois de responder: [Tudo bem] Carlyle acrescentou que demorou um pouco para responder porque estava comendo um delicioso ratatouille. Ash gentilmente disse: [Estou feliz que você está se alimentando bem] e junto com essas palavras ele acrescentou [=D] Carlyle não entendeu o marcador de imediato, então ele secretamente o procurou em seu telefone celular. Era um carinha sorridente.()
Quanto mais pensava sobre isso, mais fofo parecia, Carlyle costumava abrir e olhar a mensagem sempre que tinha tempo. O sorriso não se parecia em nada, mas gostou do fato de que o lembrava de Ash e o fazia se sentir imediatamente feliz.
Carlyle leu este texto uma vez pela manhã e outra antes das 14h. Enquanto isso, o tempo passou devagar.
Era apenas meio-dia depois de ler as notícias do país e discutir com Kyle sobre a agenda relacionada à viagem de negócios a Vancouver na semana passada. Devido a pressa desnecessária, Carlyle chegou a Covent Garden trinta minutos antes do horário prometido.
Ash pediu para se encontrar na estação de metrô. O Covent Garden no verão, especialmente nos almoços de sábado, ficava superlotado. As pessoas se aglomeravam continuamente na M&S em frente à estação, bem como em todos os tipos de lojas de roupas, calçados e lojas da Apple.
Carlyle, que nunca tinha estado em um espaço lotado como este, manteve a boca fechada e esperou por Ash em um lugar silencioso. Isso porque ele estava um pouco hesitante em entrar na estação, já que não sabia de que direção Ash viria. Se não o encontrasse, iria ligar para ele, mas não estava nem um pouco feliz com isso. Queria encontrar Ash o mais rápido possível.
Enquanto ficava de pé, olhando para o relógio, as pessoas conversavam de uma forma bastante irritante, mas Carlyle evitou o incômodo ao olhar para outra pessoa com uma expressão vazia e silenciosa.
Trinta minutos era muito tempo.
Ash apareceu na frente de Carlyle exatamente às duas horas. Um relógio no pulso, uma camisa verde escura com as mangas dobradas e um par de calças amarelo claro chamou sua atenção. Tanto o cinto quanto os sapatos eram de um marrom avermelhado. Ele estava vestido de maneira sofisticada.
Assim que Carlyle o encontrou, o homem também olhou para ele. No entanto, sua expressão estava um pouco diferente do normal.
— Carlyle.
Ash caminhou até ele e chamou seu nome. Carlyle ergueu os olhos e fez contato visual. Uma alegria insuportável surgiu, e logo ele encontrou o rosto de Ash que parecia preocupado. Uma leve sensação de ansiedade surgiu.
—… Você está bem?
— Ah. — Ash sorriu se desculpando, criando uma sombra no rosto de Carlyle que estava sem óculos de sol. — É perceptível?
— Deve ter acontecido alguma coisa de errado com você.
— Bem, sim.
Ash ergueu as sobrancelhas e mostrou uma expressão ambígua.
— Aconteceu algo urgente. Recebi um telefonema quando estava saindo da empresa… Acho que vai ser difícil arranjar tempo hoje.
“Eu realmente sinto muito”. Com um sincero pedido de desculpas, Ash lamentou profundamente. Carlyle apenas baixou o olhar silenciosamente. Assim que viu o rosto, a realidade da ansiedade que tanto tentou suprimir tornou-se rapidamente aparente e a decepção o dominou.
Era algo que não deveria ser perceptível. Claro, isso poderia acontecer, os encontros só são possíveis quando os horários dos dois coincidem.
— Há algo que eu possa fazer para ajudar, Sr. Jones?
— Obrigado pela sugestão, mas você não precisa se dar ao trabalho.
Ash sorriu suavemente, pegou a mão de Carlyle e então a soltou. O breve contato fez o coração de Carlyle disparar, e logo o batimento cardíaco desacelerou novamente assim que o toque cessou. Uma onda de arrependimento inundou todo seu corpo.
— Lamento não poder te ajudar.
— Não se desculpe. Eu te pedi pra vir até aqui.
Carlyle não sabia o que dizer. A única palavra que podia ser dita a seguir seria ‘Adeus’. Portanto, nenhuma palavra fluiu pelos seus lábios.
Ele queria tanto vê-lo, mas ficou desapontado e angustiado por ter que se separar de Ash menos de cinco minutos depois de tê-lo encontrado.
— Então eu vou indo.
Ash, que ainda tinha uma expressão triste no rosto, curvou a cabeça ligeiramente. Seus lábios tocaram a bochecha quente e logo se afastaram. O coração, que estava batendo dolorosamente, se acalmou e acelerou novamente. Ele lutou para abrir a boca e então finalmente disse:
— Vá para casa com cuidado.
“Obrigada”. Ash disse isso e olhou para Carlyle mais uma vez. Logo Ash deu as costas. Carlyle não se mexeu. Apenas ficou ali parado, vendo-o desaparecer.
Ainda não haviam decidido quando se encontrariam novamente. Não sabia se o veria amanhã ou se teria que esperar mais uma longa semana. Não era tão ruim protelar o dia de seu encontro assim, afinal, isso iria adiar o momento da despedida. No entanto, nem todas as situações tristes podem ser evitadas.
Incapaz de dar um passo à frente, Carlyle parou e olhou para as costas de Ash. Podia ver as costas do homem caminhando sem hesitação. Ash sempre foi assim. Era uma coisa comum, ele sempre deixava Carlyle sem olhar para trás. E fez isso hoje de novo, como sempre…
No momento em que pensou nisso. Ash parou de andar. As costas largas que eram altas e definidas, de repente foram viradas, e logo Ash olhou para trás.
Seus olhos se encontraram.
Mesmo a uma distância considerável, Carlyle podia ver a expressão de Ash. Suas sobrancelhas grossas e bem cuidadas se curvaram, e então Ash estreitou os olhos.
Ash que se virou completamente e varreu o cabelo da testa. Isso parecia familiar. Agora Carlyle sabe que é um hábito de Ash. Pode ver Ash olhando para ele com uma expressão preocupada, enquanto mordia o lábio inferior levemente. Carlyle não conseguia tirar os olhos do rosto de Ash, e encarou as mudanças em sua expressão, a ponto de não conseguir respirar.
Logo Ash se moveu. Não na direção em que caminhava antes, mas na direção em que Carlyle estava. As passadas longas de suas pernas pareciam um tanto impacientes.
Ash, que caminhava com a boca fechada sem o vislumbre do belo sorriso, rapidamente alcançou o rosto de Carlyle. Uma longa sombra cobriu Carlyle. E antes que ele pudesse abrir a boca, Ash agarrou o pulso dele e disse.
— Quando eu olho pra essa expressão no seu rosto — uma voz baixa disse calmamente. — Eu me sinto incapaz de te deixar sozinho.
Sentiu um pouco de força na mão que segurava seu pulso. Um esqueleto rígido comprimiu seu braço. Carlyle foi pego de surpresa.
—… Sr. Jones?
— Você tem algum compromisso hoje?
Ash perguntou com uma voz ainda moderada. Carlyle piscou os olhos. Sentiu cócegas no estômago, embora não conseguisse entender o que havia acontecido. A alegria se espalhou por seu interior.
—…não tenho.
— Mesmo?
— Sim.
— Então venha comigo.
Ash soltou o pulso levemente. Carlyle agarrou inconscientemente a mão que estava prestes a cair. O dedo de Carlyle tocou ligeiramente na ponta do dedo de Ash.
Nem agarrados nem soltos, apenas se tocando entre as juntas. Uma sensação quente e seca se espalhou pela epiderme. Ash olhou para ele e gentilmente segurou sua mão.
— Talvez não possamos fazer sexo hoje, tudo bem pra você? — Ash perguntou. Isso significava que esse compromisso de agora não tinha nada a ver com o propósito do encontro entre Carlyle e Ash. Se fosse o Carlyle de antes, ele teria evitado esse tipo de encontro desnecessário.
— Tudo bem.
Mas Carlyle tinha apenas um pensamento. Se pudesse estar com Ash, qualquer coisa seria boa o suficiente.
— Pode ser difícil.
Ash disse algo inesperado, balançou ligeiramente a cabeça, suspirou e sorriu.
— Depois não diz que eu não te avisei.
‘Sobre o que ele estava avisando?’ Carlyle estreitou as sobrancelhas ligeiramente. Ash estendeu a mão e acariciou suavemente a testa de Carlyle.
— Não reclame que está sendo trabalhoso demais.
Depois de dizer algo que não tinha nenhum sentido de urgência, Ash puxou Carlyle, que se moveu com facilidade, apesar da leve força que o guiava.
Ash conduziu Carlyle até a lotada estação de Covent Garden. Carlyle perguntou a Ash em um tom intrigado.
— Para onde estamos indo agora?
— Vou para a Knightsbridge, em um dia como hoje, andar de metrô vai ser mais rápido. É a linha Piccadilly, então chegaremos logo.
Tendo dito isso, Ash tirou sua carteira. Ao contrário de outras estações de metrô, em Covent Garden, as passagens subterrâneas eram muito estreitas, então as linhas estavam cheias. Carlyle estava convencido de que não entendia exatamente o que estava acontecendo.
— Carlyle, não quer recarregar algum cartão Oyste ou algo assim? — Ash, que naturalmente pegou um cartão e estava prestes a entrar na bilheteria, parou e perguntou. Ao ver Carlyle parado, Ash deve ter percebido algo.
‘Cartão Oyster’. Ele sabe o que é. A maioria das pessoas o usa para pegar o metrô ou ônibus. Claro, eles também aceitam dinheiro em libras, mas na maioria das vezes as pessoas usam um cartão Oyster recarregável ou um passe de transporte público descartável.
—… Eu… e que-…
— Eu te arrastei para os meus problemas. — Ash então conduziu Carlyle em direção à máquina. — Eu vou comprar para você.
— Não, tudo bem.
Isso nem mesmo fazia sentido. Carlyle recusou categoricamente. Foi bom ficar na frente da máquina enquanto bloqueava a visita de Ash.
O problema era o seguinte.
Carlyle ergueu calmamente um dedo. Havia muitos botões na tela azul com várias bandeiras listadas na parte inferior. Dadas as circunstâncias, parecia que Carlyle precisava comprar um novo cartão. O dedo hesitante pressionou lentamente o botão.
— Carlyle.
Ash, que o observava em silêncio, o abraçou por trás, os braços envolveram sua cintura e as mãos tocaram na barriga de Carlyle. Então Ash disse.
— Não acredito… Você nunca comprou um desses, certo?
Carlyle estremeceu com a respiração quente contra sua nuca. Um leve calor se espalhou por todo seu corpo. No pátio onde ele tinha que se concentrar, Ash estava perturbando Carlyle fazendo comentários apontando sua falta de conhecimento.
—… Seria bom se você pudesse tirar as mãos.
— Mas as mãos de Carlyle não estão livres agora?
Como havia algumas pessoas na fila atrás deles, depois de dizer isso, Ash se virou e pediu a compreensão delas. Com um sorriso doce nos lábios que fazia qualquer um derreter apenas de olhar para ele, Ash disse gentilmente.
— Me desculpe, mas vocês poderiam esperar mais um pouco?
Duas mulheres europeias, que pareciam turistas, arregalaram os olhos e acenaram com a cabeça rapidamente. O humor de Carlyle que acidentalmente testemunhou a cena diminuiu um pouco. O desejo de comprar o cartão desapareceu rapidamente. Era melhor apenas pegar um táxi do que usar o transporte público subterrâneo apertado e nada higiênico.
— Eu tenho mesmo que andar nisso?
— Então você realmente nunca comprou um desses.
— Eu simplesmente nunca precisei.
Ash riu baixinho. Colocou um pouco de força nas mãos que seguravam a barriga de Carlyle, e tocou sua nuca com os lábios que foram rapidamente afastados.
— Nossa Carlyle, então você também nunca andou de metrô? Caramba.
Tendo dito isso, Ash pegou a carteira no bolso. Ash tirou outro Oyster de sua carteira de couro preta e o colocou no suporte de carregamento amarelo.
— Eu tenho mais um, então vou dar a você.
Ash rapidamente apertou o botão para terminar de recarregar o cartão. Perplexo, Carlyle foi conduzido por Ash, enfiou o cartão na catraca e parou em frente ao elevador onde as pessoas estavam reunidas. Ash colocou o cartão azul na mão de Carlyle.
— É um presente, para comemorar a primeira vez que Carlyle anda de metrô.
Carlyle olhou para o cartão na palma da mão. Ao contrário dos outros cartões, havia coisas que foram compradas. Havia guardas e navios semelhantes a grafites, pode ver símbolos coloridos desenhados.
— Era um dos que eu mais gostava — Ash disse em uma voz brincalhona. — É Diamond Jubilee Oyster.
—… Está tudo bem para você me dar algo assim?
Assim que escutou que era algo que ele gostava, Carlisle perguntou seriamente. Então Ash fechou os olhos e sorriu. Ash assentiu com a cabeça e disse “sim” com uma voz genuinamente feliz.
Sem se dar conta, recebeu novamente algo de Ash. Já estava energicamente à procura da pintura, mas o desejo de dar algo para Ash repentinamente disparou ainda mais.
— Carlyle, realmente… Há momentos em que você é ingênuo.
— Como eu disse da última vez, você não parece ter talento para metáforas.
— Você acha?
“Carlyle está certo”. Ash sorriu agradavelmente ao dizer isso, e Carlyle virou a cabeça silenciosamente. Carlyle não percebeu o sorriso malicioso nos lábios do outro.
O metrô não era um transporte público muito bom para pessoas altas como Carlyle ou Ash. Os metrôs da Linha Piccadilly, que não possuem novas unidades como a Jubilee Line ou a Circle Line, eram pequenos e apertados.
Ash teve que abaixar a cabeça para embarcar, para Carlyle não foi diferente. Mesmo que o percurso fosse durar apenas cerca de doze minutos, era difícil dizer que estava tudo bem, por causa do cheiro desagradável e feromônios da multidão que enchiam o vagão.
Mas no meio do vagão lotado de gente, Ash ficou entre as pessoas e Carlyle envolvendo seu corpo, como se quisesse protegê-lo da multidão. Graças a isso, Carlyle que foi envolto pelo grande corpo de Ash, não teve que tocar nos outros.
Em vez disso, Ash e seu corpo estavam em contato próximo. Ele continuou nervoso como um adolescente. Podia sentir o cheiro sutil amadeirado de Ash à distância. Era um cheiro tão gostoso que ele queria apenas enterrar o nariz em seu pescoço e inalar fortemente.
Carlyle continuou olhando fixamente para os dois olhos diferentes de Ash que olhavam para ele. Acontece que não havia espaço suficiente para virar seu olhar, não era como se ele quisesse continuar olhando para o rosto sexy de Ash de propósito. Ao ver Carlyle constrangido, Ash piscou os olhos e sorriu, sussurrando em seu ouvido:
“Fico sem graça quando você me olha assim”.
Uma voz totalmente desavergonhada fez gentilmente cócegas em seus ouvidos. Carlyle foi pego de surpresa. Sua expressão não mudou, mas ele baixou o olhar ligeiramente e se desculpou com Ash.
“… Eu causei algum inconveniente? Peço desculpas.”
“Quem disse isso?”
Ash gentilmente agarrou a bochecha de Carlyle que baixou o olhar. Por um momento, pareceu impróprio ser visto assim em público, mas Carlyle percebeu que ele havia estabelecido limites para beijar e fechou a boca. Foi estranho porque parecia diferente e casual, mas não era como se não gostasse.
“Eu gosto de coisas travessas que causam vergonha.”
Ash ficou na altura de seus olhos e sussurrou baixinho.
“Então continue me olhando assim.”
“Hã?” Ash o questionou novamente, inclinou a cabeça e sorriu. Estava perto o suficiente para que com a ponta de seu nariz pudesse tocá-lo. Estavam tão perto que qualquer pessoa iria pensar que estavam se beijando, Carlyle piscou as pálpebras, incapaz de respirar.
Uma mão que não conseguia decidir se deveria empurrá-lo, pressionou a barriga de Ash e caiu indefesa.
‘…Você está tentando me beijar’
Esse pensamento passou pela sua cabeça. Como não conseguiu entrar em contato com Ash por quase seis dias, era verdade que queria muito beijá-lo. Ash estava sorrindo com um olhar difícil de interpretar.
Quando estava prestes a sufocar com a estranha tensão, a voz de uma mulher anunciando a estação soou. Ash endireitou a parte superior do corpo ao ouvir a voz de repetir o nome Estação Knightsbridge duas vezes.
— Nós chegamos.
Ash conduziu a mão que segurava com força. Ash escapou entre a multidão, pedindo compreensão com muita habilidade.
As pessoas não conseguiam tirar os olhos do rosto de Ash, que não parava de dizer com licença, então Carlyle deixou o metrô sem ter que tocar em mais ninguém.
— Então, como você se sente em relação a usar o metrô pela primeira vez?
Ash perguntou enquanto subiam as escadas. Carlyle pensou consigo mesmo. ‘Foi uma experiência desagradável. Mas foi bom estar em contato com Ash’.
— Talvez eu possa andar mais uma vez.
… Apenas na premissa de que Ash estará junto.
Sem saber dos pensamentos ocultos de Carlyle, Ash riu ingenuamente das palavras.
O ar mudou quando a luz seca e quente atingiu o solo. Adjacente ao extenso Hyde Park, Knightsbridge é um dos distritos mais ricos na fronteira de South Kensington, que Carlyle às vezes costumava frequentar.
Passando pelos ônibus vermelhos de dois andares e pelas bicicletas Barclays enfileiradas na calçada, Ash caminhou em direção ao parque.
— Você ia ao Hyde Park com frequência?
— Estive lá quando fui convidado para uma apresentação de Balé da BBC.
— Então você quer dizer que nunca esteve lá para passear?
— Não tenho memória disso.
Embora fosse um lugar relativamente tranquilo comparado com Hampstead Heath ou Richmond Park perto de sua casa, Hyde Park não era um lugar que Carlyle ia com frequência.
— Bem, há Hampstead Heath perto da casa de Carlyle. Eu gosto de lá também. A vista da paisagem lá de cima é linda.
Carlyle fez uma pausa. Seu coração bateu forte quando ouviu Ash dizer que gostava daquele lugar. Sentiu cócegas por dentro como se algo quisesse pular de sua boca. E, e queria muito dizer algo.
‘Se acontecer de você passar por perto qualquer dia desses, por favor me avise. Tire um tempo e venha comigo… Podemos dar um passeio?’
Ele queria dizer isso.
Estava tonto. Queria compartilhar suas recomendações, sugestões e desejos egoístas. Achou que seria agradável poder passear com Ash por lá. Suas costelas o cutucavam por dentro como se seu desejo de passar mais tempo com Ash fosse saltar para fora a qualquer momento.
Mas Carlyle lutou consigo mesmo para suprir esse desejo. Porque não estava em posição de dizer isso a Ash, e não tinha certeza se ele gostaria de ouvir.
Nunca tinha falado com ninguém sobre um desejo tão mesquinho e pessoal. Então Carlyle cerrou os punhos ligeiramente e perseverou para controlar seus impulsos.
— Então você provavelmente nem viu a estátua de Darcy no Lago Serpentine.
Carlyle franziu ligeiramente as sobrancelhas.
— Você já viu aquela abominação?
— Você conhece? Isso é inesperado.
Ash parou de rir como se realmente não esperasse por isso. Já faz muito tempo, mas ele lembrava de ir ao Parque Hyde no dia em que a estátua foi erguida com a tocha de Aiden.
— Eu vi devido às circunstâncias inevitáveis.
— É uma coisa horrível.
Ash ruminou as palavras de Carlyle e riu baixinho. Como se achasse o homem fofo ele estendeu a mão e esfregou a bochecha de Carlyle.
— Você não gosta?
— Eu não acho que seja um gosto que eu possa entender.
— Você realmente odeia o suficiente para ficar assim. Você é fofo.
Ah, depois de fazer um som, Ash começou a andar novamente. Incapaz de digerir a palavra fofo, Carlyle olhou para frente. Ele segurou a mão de Carlyle com força.
— Lembro-me de ir ver com meus amigos e ser perseguido por cisnes.
— Eles são pássaros mal-humorados.
Carlyle franziu a testa ao fazer um comentário depreciativo contra os bens da Rainha. É um fato bem conhecido que os cisnes têm uma personalidade ruim. Ficou chateado ao pensar que fizeram isso com Ash.
— Eu sei bem. Fiquei com medo quando vi vários pássaros me perseguindo. Da próxima vez que você ver algum deles, Carlyle, por favor, os repreenda para mim.
Ash esfregou suavemente as costas da mão de Carlyle e brincou. Quando entram em uma área residencial tranquila e agradável, apenas as vozes das duas pessoas ecoam na rua.
—…Eu farei isso.
Quando falou baixinho com sinceridade sem se dar conta, Ash fechou os olhos e riu. Desta vez, Ash apertou ainda mais a mão de Carlyle. Seu sangue esquentou com a sensação de ser agarrado com força.
